I've been meaning to get this off my chest for awhile.

Any speculation how plausable this future is. It says it's set in 2047. Should we care what happens in real time after this date?

What is everyone doing? Did Carrington absorb the CIA? Are there other Institutes we don't know about?

I haven't played any other Perfect Dark which might shed light on my questions. If not, I wonder what it's generally going to be like by then?

Have the larger powers of the world absorbed the smaller countries? Maybe the world will settle for peace before then. Will we even need to employ the Dark?

Consider this some kind of topic not worthy of a topic forum. Unless it is?

I thought the original Perfect Dark (the N64 and XBLA game) took place in 2023? If it's not, where did I get that number from?...

I too was thinking Perfect Dark took place in 2023 but I can't find that date in the instruction manual. I remembered Joana was 23 years old so she was born in the year 2000, when the game was released, and I was like "ah, so she is a baby now".

Perhaps it's said in one of those computers in the research lab where you have lots of info about the plot and characters.

Daniel Carrington is 62 years and 8 months old in the game, so he is about 53 years old right now. I wonder if he has already made contact with Elvis people. It's probably said somewhere in the game too.

Could be my error. Maybe it is 2023. I don't see all that hover technology being that widespread. Though I could be wrong.

The Weaponary, AI's, people, aliens and everything else feel feasible in 10 years. Humans, AI's, and Weaponary possible right now.

Though there is no real answer to the question I proposed. We're not there yet and anything can still happen, right?

Granted, all this text is unused (from Defection), but that year is definitely tied to the game. I don't think it's mentioned in any of the text that's used, I don't remember it if it is.

Didn't he get hover tech from the Maians? Maybe it was a more general "technology" they used, but fairly certain they were sliding him stuff on the sly.

I wouldn't put much merit in the timeline though. Chances are they didn't put a lot of thought in the dates or maintaining continuity.

Yeah, the Maians were giving Carrington technology, which he was "inventing" and releasing to the public.
