So on the maiden run of my latest overclocked monstrosity, featuring a 12v fan for cooling so Gauntlet Legends didn't lock up due to overheating, we found that controller 4 wouldn't connect.

Turns out that the data pin on port 4 is quite badly corroded, and the pins themselves very dull - it'd seem that only port 1 ever got used on this one, and not once did I think of checking it before I embarked on a massive mod job.

Has anyone had experience with this? I'll try picking up a small cleaning kit from the electrical shop tomorrow and see if I can polish the ends of the pins (or scour back) but will post results just in case this does become an issue for someone else. In saying that any help is appreciated!

Right. After a fair bit of messing around I found the the inside of the data wire was also badly corroded, so removed the covers and got at as much of the corrosion as I could. I renewed the solder at the bottom of the junction (heated up and reflowed it) and then used a whittled wooden skewer and some more fine grade steel wool to clean back the metal pin at the front of the connection.

It wasn't a fantastic job but it was enough to get things working again, and as this tech ages there's all the more likelihood that these issues will increase
