Worked like a charm! It's hard trying to figure out how everything in a level is modded through the editor.

Thanks MultiplayerX! Should have a completed patch for Level 1 hopefully done and available by the end of the weekend.

Haha, nice plot, although... MI5 in USSR?

I mean, Im not entirly sure if it is a possibility or not, but basically my understanding is that MI5 only deal with internal security, anything external is MI6's responcibility.

eg, lets say someone is identified as ISIS, MI6 would deal with it untill they crossed into the UK where they would hand off to MI5 as a security issue (who in turn hand off to the Police as only the Police can make arrests).

Likewise, if MI5 suspected someone and they left the UK, MI6 would (along with the CIA and the rest of the 5I's) would take over.


Bond is somewhat different, with distingtion between the pre Casino Royals and after.

He is a main character, and as most main charaters stays with the action.
Pre-CR he didnt do much in the UK anyway, in Goldfinger he only played golf. In the strictest of terms, this should have been MI5, but we can let it slide as "Need-to-know" and "Time-Sensitive".
I cant really say much for Post-CR except that skyfall was an attack on MI6 itself.

Basically I have it currently plotted out so you learn that MI5 was originally sent to deal with the arms problem taking place at the UK Capitol but developments right before the first mission lead the government to turn the entire operation over to MI6.

Mission 1 sees Bond trackinga shipment of illegal weapons to the Dam. I think that since MI6 isn't involved until the operation does indeed leaves England, it is plausible. However, I have also thought that too many plot details quickly could make it hard to follow.

This is odd.

I'm injecting the text in the 21990 which was working fine. However, I've tried adding M's and Q's Briefing into the mission and the game locks up when you try to view it on the Folder Menu. In the watch, the text doesn't appear for either one. I've checked and it's definitely not a formatting issue. Is there a certain amount of text available per level? My briefing text shouldn't be any bigger than the actual Rare text.

I do think the watch has more room for briefing text than the folders, but I'm not sure if you overrun it if the game would freeze. It is possible. Maybe try shortening it a bit and see if it at least loads. If it does, you'll need to adjust your original briefings to fit. Sucks, but I am sure Rare ran into this on a few occasions (needing to shorten for folder space).

It usually crashes if any text is for a level bank other than that levels.

You may want to post either the text file, or post the briefings exactly as they appear in your file. Make sure the briefing file itself is also being updated and put into the ROM (think is UbriefdamZ?), or else the folders won't show anything, maybe even crash.

My last attempt has seen both the Folder Menu and Watch Menu crash if I attempt to look at any of the briefing files. The rest of the text in the level is working fine (I even modified some text to make sure it was being updated).

I'm assuming it's the length of my briefing text. Is there a rule of thumb when writing that text or is it just trial and error?

Most likely you missed a text digit that's pointing to the wrong level bank, so crashing cause of that. Too long I don't think crashes it. Check all objectives, and all briefings.

I'm now wondering if I'm somehow injecting the files wrong. I'm not seeing any errors anywhere.

I'm then clicking the dropdown to select LdamE.bin on the list and using the INJECT FILE AND UPD TABLE to select the new file to overwrite the old, before clicking both DELETE DEBUG DATA buttons and re-writing the ROM.

You should only have to delete debug data once for your ROM. When it is gone, it is gone for good.

Have you tried erasing your briefing text and only putting an asterisk (*) for each line? That at least would tell you that it is the text itself causing the game to freeze.

Remember that you need an asterisk at the end of nearly all text lines, or else the game will crash. There are a few exceptions to this. Usually it is good to see what Rare did for the same circumstances.

I did notice that the original LdamE.bin didn't have asterisks after the Q Branch text. Maybe that could be causing the issue. I'll try what you suggested Wreck and will post my results here when done.



EDIT: The briefing does load when the text is taken out. Will continue to plug away at this. The briefing is really the only issue I have to take care of before the level is done.

When I'm ready to submit the level, is the best way to do so by using the option in the Editor?

If all else fails, hopefully someone like SubDrag or myself can help. It's always nice to sort out the issues yourself, but assistance is right around the corner. Smile
