I like the aesthetic for the levels, but the weapons and monsters aren't working for me. Procedural generation kills most of my interest. |

I hate the whole lo-res minecraft crappyness style of it.
When your limited by technology you do everything in your power to make the best of it (GE/PD) now we have Huge amounts of resources for nice graphics (doesnt have to be photo realistic) and they choose to use lo-res point sampled textures... I just dont see the point.
Its not even as though you can run the game in DOS, the Sys Requirements are quite a bit.
Story doesnt catch me either. Doom looks similar and that does run in DOS (and N64).

I've always felt that gameplay is paramount, and regardless of graphics it's got to be entertaining otherwise I'll play it for a few minutes and put it down. To save a large list the core thing is: for me if it's not bringing new things to the table I'll play for an hour, nut it out, and then give up on it. I think this will be the hinge in Strafe: does it keep the pundits entertained?
In saying that given that all multiplayer in COD has now clocked up enough hours to date back to the dinosaurs the "expected" FPS player nowdays doesn't seem to want more than that...who knows. I want to play Hexen and Blood again... _________________ No Mr. Bond, I expect you to be re-coded! |

I think that graphics are hand in hand with love of the project. If you love it youll Strive for good things, if you dont youl rush graphics out and it can be seen as a rush-job.
If they wanted a retro project, then it should be a true retro project to run on a retro environment (Win/DOS 386+, N64, NES etc).
It gives a real tangable reason and target for 'design' choices as against just a design choice where they hold graphics back but when they stumble they let it go to high because they target a modern System.
Anyway, im rambling.

Why did this style of shooter die off? Looks ca-razy fun!

Because we're 30 years old and got our ass kicked by 17 years old with better reflexes.
So we let frenetic games genre die.
My opinion |

BWHAHAHAHAHA!
Saying "Because we're 30 years old and have lives now" would have also sufficed. Although gameplay has changed, with modern games being more of a "rich get richer" setup as opposed to a flat even playing field where all weapons were balanced and better suited to different situations and preferences (oh how often Quake and UT reminded me of that!). _________________ No Mr. Bond, I expect you to be re-coded! |

If they polished everything up, I'd totally play this.
But in it's current state, it looks like one of those "retro" games that are made by people that do not understand retro and lake it all blocky and pixelated with no effort on what "retro graphics" look like. _________________ This is a signature, why did you read this? |

The game looks promising, but god that trailer though is just, wow. Like it's from the 90's.
It reminds me more of quake though. I don't see much Goldeneye in it as of now. I hope this project get's done though and have it Steam Greenlight on it. Because this game would be a worthy title on my Steam collection. _________________ There totally nothing to read here. |
