Hi everyone,
The voices have been covered briefly in other sections.

There are broadly 2 issues to address:

1. How will the guard voices be done?
2. How will the dialogue be done?

1. Regarding guard voices, there are a few different voices to record. I understand there are 3 male and 1 female voices. Wreck sensibly suggested the voices all be Russian with a mix of English and Russian lines. Trying to get any other accents for the few non Russian maps is probably a waste of resources. Also, I don't know how critical it is that voices are consistent within one guard's voice. Inconsistency probably only really matters with different genders and, as I recall, there are no female guards in GE-X.

2. Regarding dialogue, I've had a quick look at the Goldeneye script and compared it to the text that appears I the game. I think about 10% of lines are the same, a further 10% very similar and maybe another 30% could be constructed using some creative splicing from other lines. I think the key question here is, do we take/splice lines that are true to the context of the scene even if they are not strictly true to the film? Do we put on our best impressionist voices to plug the gaps? Do we dredge every movie with the various main actors in order to find better lines? A brief bit of investigation tells me that the main Russians characters are in fact Scottish, Swedish, Dutch, French and German, so there are probably very few other instances of other films where they are affecting a Russian accent.

The other Brosnan bond movies are an obvious source including TWINE for more of Valentin and I've starting compiling useful dialogue. I've started making a list of movies that might have the others using Russian accents, I have done this for Izabella Scorupco (Natalya), Tchéky Karyo (Mishkin) and working on Gottfried John (Ourumov). Can anyone remember specific films where they play Russians or similar?

Also, there are quite a few lines of dialogue spoken by the guards, and for these, all options are on the table.

Thoughts welcome.

I know it doesn't come off as the best idea, but since the game dialogue (and many scenarios) do not match the film, that the ideal approach is to use voice actors to perform the lines. I have plans for even more talking than what GoldenEye originally had. Not just Bond referencing locations and objectives (much like Joanna in PD), but to cover situations with various characters that feel missing. You can already see some of those lines in the preview missions (read at top screen, plays a PD voice clip). It lends more info / banter to certain missions, and gives the feeling you are 007.

I do not agree with this, I think people will find this annoying, like Bond won't shut up.
Also voices can only be done right if the voice actors, whoever they are, are good at making impressions of the film's actors. If not it will sound awful.

I reckon with some work most of the main character lines can be covered with, if not the correct line, one that is sufficiently similar. I will do a little work on this and see how much can be covered and will post my progress. I share Siul's anxiety about Bond talking to himself. A caveat to this would be quips, which Bond is very likely to say out loud. However, I can't recall all the quips from the Brosnan movies but presumably they're all on IMBD. Whether they can be mission-specific is another matter. I think a discussion with Q, Tanner or M via a comm would be much more in keeping with the feel.

Bond doesn't have a radio, cell phone or headset to keep in constant contact with MI6, so discussions with anyone at HQ is not going to be able to happen. Though however he does get his mission briefings on multi part assignments is a bit of a mystery.

I don't recall anyone complaining about Joanna talking during her missions. In fact, it is very easy to block out entirely.

Obviously if someone sounds more like Ricky Gervais than Pierce Brosnan, they won't be getting used.

I trust that Wreck's writing talent will be more than enough to make sure any new dialog only makes the end product better. If all-new dialog is what it takes to bring the missions together then I'm excited to see what it will be!

Of course, the real difficulty will be finding someone who can do the voices.

I think the most important question is, do people think it would better to have dialogue from the movie that is a closely matched to the game or a perfect match of but by impressionists?

I think the decision about whether Bond talks to himself or a comm isn't quite so clear-cut. As Wreck says, he never had a comm in Goldeneye, but has done one other occasions (Casino Royale) plus we know he has the means to communicate via the watch. I think it comes down to which suits the feel of a Bond movie better, personally I favour the comm idea.

What sort of thing were you thinking? "I need to find the double agent and make contact"? Wreck, do you have a list of such comments yet? Whilst I'm looking for recorded Brosnan dialogue it might be helpful to know what other lines I need.

I do not care what is done with the voice of Bond talking to himself or a communicator, I do not think I will dislike something like watching the mod with Bond talking on a communicator, sometimes I can think that it can even provide some realism. Regarding Bond's community, it is something that is seen in the game TWINE, in addition to PD, so from here you can extract the general opinion that people have regarding this. to me of course it does not seem bad to me to listen to the communications with Bond by radio in the level Silo in difficulty 00Agent, and in Egypt.

some small dialogues that Bond can receive by radio:

- Be careful, Mr. Bond.
- Get out of there as soon as possible.
- Investigate this area carefully.
- Hurry Mr. Bond.
- avoid non-military victims.

about the female voices, I think that in PD there are two female voices, these are the voice of Cassandra de Vries and the generic female voice that I think is unique, even the secretary that accompanies Cassandra also has a different voice? Johana has another female voice, so she may have been able to count up to 3 or 4 female voices.

If you play Silo, Frigate and Egypt missions in GE-X, you will see the additional Bond lines I've included. It's usually Bond referencing an area or important item, commenting when certain objectives are completed or failed, or when collecting a necessary pickup. I have the majority already written out for every level (some have very few), but those are subject to change as progress is made. Even the current missions may see tweaks to dialogue.

All I can say is, while combing through movies to find matching / similar discussions by the actors sounds well and fine, it will be impossible to get it all, and cut + paste editing more often than not sounds choppy and weird. I'd still prefer to use voice actors to cover it all correctly. So long as they sound fairly close, or have a professional feel that still fits.

I agree that cutting and pasting would sound odd if cut mid-sentence but if we cut at commas or full stops, I think it would sound fine but the trade-off would be that the dialogue would be slightly different to the game. Perhaps I'll have a go and see how it sounds.

How about you try to do a sample with the lines provided in the current patch?

While I would love the primary voices to be "real" I do share Wrecks concern that background noises and additional dialogue will not fit - and mix and match wont do either. If someone was close enough to Brosnan to fill in, they might as well record clean lines throughout.

Yeah, how does Bond get his multi-part missions?
His watch contains textual entries, but I think either he has his mission with him and reads only the applicable pages OR the briefing is a flashback to when he read those pages back at MI6.

It could become reality today thanks to the AI voice generator if you could try to use this software you could introduce the voice of Pierce Brosnan corresponding to the discussions of the game N64.
