A guy on Facebook (who might also be a member here) messaged me about a website that sells N64 cart creation stuff that is apparently very easy to use. You can check it out here...

Seems pretty neat. I have not looked for reviews, though. |

From a few videos on YouTube, it seems pretty decent. Currently it goes up to 32 MB ROM size, which is probably good enough for most games. Also, only the 4Kbit EEPROM save type, not 16Kbit used by Perfect Dark. I guess you could still use Controller Pak's, though. Hopefully they will continue to build upon that. Also has a region switch for PAL.
It takes about 4 minutes to write a standard ROM, around a minute to erase, and you can replace the ROM whenever you like. So for cases where the game is still being updated, you'd be able to upload a newer version over it. Certainly better than needing to create another copy each time the next release is made public. |

To be totally honest I was wondering how I'd get a physical copy of GF64 and GE:X when they were done! _________________ No Mr. Bond, I expect you to be re-coded! |

The technology keeps improving, and more people are beginning to make custom carts. You can find some on eBay, Etsy, and I have heard about AliExpress. That will only continue to grow as time progresses. I don't doubt people will put GF64 and GE-X on carts, without asking the authors if it's alright, as has been done for years with NES / SNES custom ROMs. One of the unfortunate aspects of our hobby. |
