While working on replacing all characters in Perfect Dark with Mario ones (to go along with GoldenEye With Mario Characters), I decided to go through the insanely boring task of documenting all available colors for Dialog Boxes.

The commands in the Action Blocks don't allow you to enter actual RGB values, instead it's one set of Hex so 00 through FF.
These values can be used for both cutscene & in-game dialog boxes.

There is surprisingly a good amount of unused colors in this list, along with weird variations of colors.
There are a ton of repeats though, so first I'll be listing the different colors along with pictures, then at the bottom will be the full list with the Hex values. Some are kind of useless because they're very hard to read in normal gameplay, possibly worse on console.

Green (Trent/Carrington)

Blue-ish Grey (Similar to Game Startup)

Light Grey

Pink (Mr. Blonde/Johnathon)

Yellow (Cassandra)

Grey (Elvis/Carrington/Transmission)

Orange (Guard)

Blue (Joanna/Transmission)

Purple

Blue-ish Purple

Red

Green-ish Turquoise

White

Camouflage

Very Very Dark Blue-ish Grey

Sorta Very Very Dark Grey

Very Dark Grey

Sorta Very Dark Grey

Greener Camouflage

Very Dark Purple-ish Grey

Slightly Brighter Green

(The RGB value is just barely different)

Brighter Green

Very Dark Purple

Very Bright Green

Dark Purple

The Insanely & Extremely Dark colors are impossible to see so no pictures for those. Had to use MS Paint to replace the black with white which revealed the text.

I'm guessing the values really only go up to 09 or 0A, but that said, all the values after which are an overrun can be used for fun text colors.

Like everyone else, I assumed everything past 0B were duplicates. Three in a row, after all. I'll add a few of these to the pdactions.ini I'm working on, as well as a link to this post for anyone who wants the full list.

Good job fulfilling this incredibly tedious task! ... I wonder how much of it would change based on other game modifications, though...

I'm of the same mind as SubDrag. If I remember correctly, the text colours are stored in a table in the 39850 index file. There are only a certain number of entries, so anything past that is likely running over into other data. While it isn't a legitimate colour made by Rare, it's using the data as such. Still, interesting to see it does work, and new colours can be utilized in customized missions.

Thanks for documenting this. It's going to be useful to me sooner or later.
