Well, today was the day that AOL officially shut down AIM.

I tried logging in one last time (for the first time in I'm sure at least 10 years) and couldn't get on.

There was something about the experience of using instant messengers back in the day that just isn't matched in any of today's numerous communication mediums.

I think I used to use MSN Messenger, probably getting on fifteen years ago. Cripes, has it been that long? Not sure I ever used any AOL related service, but do recall the discs quite well.

AIM was definitely a great chat thing in it's day. I haven't used in years mainly since people stopped using it, but I have fond memories of it.

It's no surprise I had no use for it. I'm someone who uses his mind more than running his mouth.

AIM wasnt big here, it was all about MSN messenger.

Speaking of which, there's an "emulator" for MSN. Here's the link if anyone cares to check it out.

Sorries bit offtopic , reminded of MSN , so how about Age Of Empires 2 ? Didn't that use some MSN proprietary service ?

Is there a port I can unblock/forward to host or just buying digitally remaster is the way to be ?

You're better off getting the HD version unless you dont mind using some sort of tunnelling software like Hamachi, Evolve or Tunngle.

Same, MSN was all the rage where I'm from. I have so many fond memories of it.
