I mean obviously it was considered, but Danjaq/MGM licensing crap prevented that from happening _________________ Playing old, low poly games since 2003 |

The problem with re-releasing Goldeneye is it's copyright. Rare (and so Microsoft, becuase MS own Rare) own the rights to Perfect Dark, so they can publish PD anytime they like. The same with most Rare games. But the Goldeneye game's copyright is* joint owned by Rare, Nintendo, and MGM (the film studio who own the rights to the film which the game is based upon). All three companies would have to agree to GE 64 being released, or it's release wouldn't be legal. It's also possible that Activision, who currently own the rights to publish James Bond games, would have to give permission, depending on the contract that they themselves have with MGM.
* Things might have changed since then, since apparently Nintendo's copyright might have expired, but even if so, no doubt the whole situation is still so messy that a modern remake of the classic game is very unlikely, unfortunately |

Every election year I think, "someone should run on the platform of pushing Rare, Microsoft, Nintendo and (whoever owns the bond license) to release this damn thing". I would vote for them. |
