I think in this instance, I'm pumped. It's going to make the game itself more incredible. On the downside, it's one helluva big gamble. Bungie isn't making the movie so who can say that it's going to be up to standard for the franchise?

The game-to-film translation is a rather tricky thing. In most situations, the writer takes only a portion of the storyline and alters the rest of it. This has both good and bad qualities. The good part is that it strives for more of a plot and less of the running around, shooting or solving puzzles. The bad part of it is that it deviates from the original, alienating the fans. They'll often modify the scenario or the background information, turning it into something completely different. Let me give you two examples of how this can work, and how it can fail.

#1: Mortal Kombat. So the first two games didn't have much of a story, other than a group of fighters must participate in a tournament to save Earth. This left open a lot of room to work in details and character development. It is, in my opinion, the best translation to date.

#2: Resident Evil. A series of games that has an extensive plotline, of which was almost totally discarded in the movie. The S.T.A.R.S. team, removed. The boss characters, altered. The location, modified. The virus, changed. Not only did we not get to see the people from the game series, we were introduced to a brand new one: Alice. I'll tell you, I think Milla Jovovich is an incredible actress, and not to mention beautiful. She's the only thing keeping my interest in the films. That's coming from a guy who loves the Resident Evil videogames. But by neglecting what the fans know and reinventing the plot on us, you're only pushing us away.

That being said, it's tough to do the right thing. While you want to please the fans, you also need to appeal to those who don't play the games. That is where it can either fall apart or be successful.

I'm thinking, the movie, then the game. So therefore the game will be based on the movie and locations? It would be quite incredible to have some of the multiplayer maps within the movie in certain sections! Although let's think about it, that is some of the beauty of GoldenEye multiplayer levels like bunker and facility. The footage is what you are playing in the game. I dunno, Halo movie could rock. As you know, Halo is my second or third fav shooter.

The movie has been pushed back to Summer 2008, according to Peter Jackson.

They really can't screw up the story in Halo 3 because they ended Halo 2 in a cliffhanger ending, since the 3rd Halo is the last one, they need to clear up the story and see what happens with halo and the convenants.

The last one? Ug. Makes me curious. I think their will be such a huge buzz with the games release that the movie will cash in big time. I'll say it here, Halo3 will be the biggest video game release of all time.

I have no doubt about that because Halo 2 made more money than the box office for movies made when it came out that week.

If you want plot, read the books. Skip "The Flood" though. It was pretty bad.

That's odd because the flood is what made Halo 1 a phenomenal game...bungie wanted to make the flood more interesting in the game than the book.
