Anyone know emulator/video plugin that runs this mighty N64 game?
This was my favorite N64 game (with Goldeneye/PD of course)...
and now I don't have it anymore, and PJ64 doesn't run it at all... |

I just wrote one.
Visit the following link for details.
You need Project64 1.5 (yes, 1.5!), z64gl R17 as a video plugin and my custom RSP plugin. You should also set "CPU Core Style" to Interpreter. And you need OpenGL 2.0 - compliant video card.

No, you should use Project64 1.5.
As for glew32.dll, it's my fault, I should have clarified that too. You must download glew32.zip from here:
http://www.emutalk.net/showpost.php?p=378460&postcount=1
Then unpack it and put glew32.dll in the root directory of Project64 1.5 i.e. the directory where project64.exe is located.
Don't hesitate to respond if further problems will occur. |

Heheheee, you knew, that there would be some problems....
Ok, everything works just fine, except the game doesn't run at all (just a black screen, when I start it, no sounds either).
I use worldchampionship.V64 file (which is USA game, not euro or japan).
I got X1800GTO, that is OpenGL 2.0 video card.
I changed the Interpreter, both in "rom settings" and "options" screen (don't matter anyway?).
Is it normal, that I can't now access to "RSP plugin" and "Graphics plugin" configs?
My other options atm:
- always overwrite: checked.
- self-mod code: check memory & cache
- expansion pak: using
- advanced block linking: on
And my other rom-settings:
- seld-mod global: global (as in options)
- expansion pak: global (as in options)
- advanced block linking: global (as in options)
- counted factor: default
- use TLB: checked
- register caching: checked
Also my new Project64 1.5.b.1. crashes quite often, when I shut it down.

Yes, it's perfectly normal that you can't access "Configure graphics plugin..." and "Configure RSP plugin..." dialogues with these plugins.
And yes, it's normal that the emulator crashes on exit.
There're 6 things I can advise:
1. What is your Catalyst version? Mine is 7.10 and it works. Get the most recent one, if you use an older one (especially versions from 2006 and prior).
2. Do you really use my rsp.dll that you got from http://w14.easy-share.com/14488331.html ? You should use this one, not the one that comes with z64gl R17. If there's another rsp.dll in \Plugin directory you must overwrite it with mine.
3. Make sure that you use the sound plugin bundled with PJ64 1.5
4. Make sure that you have put the file z64gl.conf that comes with z64gl R17 into your plugin directory.
5. Never try to run the game if you have just exited another game you had played before. Instead, exit the whole emulator, and run it again.
6. Do not try to switch to full-screen. Also do you wait a bit after you start the game? It won't load momentarily.
If all these things fail, I'll gladly send you my emulator in an archive. |

1. I got catalyst 7.10 too.
2. Yep, it is there, and the old one is removed
3. haven't changed it
4. it is still there, haven't touched it, tried also without sounds
5. Never do that, even on other games
6. Nope, just black screen, nothing happens, no sound, nothing
I think the problem is with my emulator, I try to download it somewhere else?
Or then it is just in my comp. Maybe it does not like that game?
I have solved all my problems with emulator, but this is new... hehehe.
Thanks for your help anyway. |

You can download the configuration that's working for me:
http://w14.easy-share.com/15087891.html
In fact, I'm in the middle of playing through the game's championship now.
If the game still doesn't work with this config, please try to run a couple of simpler games like Super Mario 64, and tell me if they work. It's needed so that we can finally determine what's breeding problems. |

Ok. So this is strange:
No change.
Simple games like Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64 works about 50% of time, and when they'll do, they are very bad, like 1/2 frames per. minute, but my counter says anyway 20 fps????
And when they don't, it is just a black screen, like in world driver championship, no voice, no nothing.
This is strange, 'cause in my other PJ64 1.5, with the same settings, I get 10 frames more (about 30), but the games work even worst (blurry picture and everything), so the emulator counts, but both are very bad. PJ64 1.5 works fine with me, without these plugins...
Sounds quite bad... damn...

Yes, the speed should be like that, it's normal, but these simple games should work 100% of time (at least they do with my X800 GTO and Catalyst 7.10).
OK, now stick with this last configuration that I've uploaded to easy-share.com an don't change anything there.
Would you be so kind as to find Stunt Racer 64 (another game on WDC's engine), and tell me if it works in this configuration? It's quite important to test Stunt Racer 64 in order to resolve your issue.
Also, do you run WindowsXP SP2? |

Ok, I tested it. The stunt racer works, but there are some issues:
Graphics (I think) should not flicker like that.
It is very slow (40 fps in the select-screens and 15-20 fps in thegame). Is it really so hard on your computer?
One thing I noticed, the stunt racer was stuntracer.Z64, when the other roms we're .V64... got to test world driver with .Z64 ending.
But I don't think it helps, let's see.
More coming soon...

Yes, the plugin is very hard on CPU, so don't except much FPS. I get the same FPS in Stunt Racer.
If Stunt Racer works, WDC should theoretically work too, because their RSP code is identical. The only thing that differs is, as I said, WDC requires "CPU Core Style" to be "Interpreter". The proper way to set it, is to right-click WDC while you're in rom browser and go into "Edit game settings" dialogue. Check that you have set it please.
All my roms have .Z64 extension, so it may matter.

Ok, I tried:
The GAME WORKS!!!! WOOO!!!!
But...
I really can't play it like that, it is SLOW AS HELL.
The graphics and the sounds are also messed up.
I get only 12-15 fps in game, but it is really much slower than that, even the countdown at the start last maybe 1 minute: 3......................2..................1...................
Is there a way to get it run smoother?
Also the screen ratio is wrong, it is because the letterbox? Don't know...
Thank you for you're help on this one anyway... I at least got some good memories at the title screen

Nope, no way to speed it up, except buying a top-notch CPU.
What is your CPU?
Yes, sound is bad (not because it's emulated badly, but because the game is slow), I usually turn it off.
Please post a screenshot of graphics "messed up" and I'll tell if these distortions are normal.
Screen ratio is wrong b/c it works in hi-res. To eliminate this, press Start while you're racing, and set "Resolution" to "Norm". |
