After a year of deciding, (and many a time dreaming of playing Bond music while driving an Aston Martin - I can dream can't I!!!) I thought that I should take the plunge and learn to drive! I've sorted out my license, and start my lessons in two weeks time.
Any tips you guys can give me? I feel pretty confident but there is always room for any advice. Thanks! |

I have some speed advice.
Always go really slow (2 mph or 3 km/h) in parking lots. Usually you have to stop a lot, because of cars pulling out or pedestrians walking around. Going that slow allows you to stop quickly.
Don't go fast on side streets. Let's keep those quiet neighbourhoods quiet.
An extension to what Scorpion said on the weather thing: drive slow on icy roads or avoid them altogether, especially if you don't have winter tires.
Lastly, you should always slow down when turning on a curved road. The tighter the curve is, the slower you go. |

I have something my grandfather always tells me
Everyone else on the road is blind. They cannot see you so they are completely oblivious to you.
And then something a bit more specific.
If you slow down in the middle of the road to make a turn, when you come to a stop, do not pivot your steering wheel in the direction of your turn. Keep it parallel to the road because if your wheels are pivoted, and a car crashes into you from behind, you would go into oncoming traffic because your wheels would be leading you in that direction.
That is all |

Yeah, it is the same in the UK!
Thanks for the advice guys! I guess it'll just come to me when I start the lessons. I can't wait! |

Drive slow when with the instructor, don't jerk the steering wheel while driving, and have a positive attitdude. _________________ An Elevator from Earth; then to the Heavens...
