The good thing is that it's still being talked about.
I'd be more worried if the whole thing had just been buried completely.

Yeah. It's funny, I had completely forgotten about the port until three or four days ago, when I went digging for information, and found nothing new. Just strange timing that this was found now, really.

I finally see Nintendo's reasoning after reading those. Up until this point I was under the assumption that the remake was supposed to come out on both consoles, it wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo to hold back on that, but it's not. Nintendo's getting an emulated version, most likely without updated controls despite the fact that the console's control style is made for shooters, while their rival gets a full-blown remake? Heh, I'd probably do the same thing in that situation, especially with a game that could easily get people to buy a console they had no intention of prior to its release. I bet if Nintendo was getting a fair deal here they would have no qualms about releasing it, if the 360 version was also emulated and not upgraded at all or the remake was ported to the Wii.

I still personally believe that this is just a big publicity campaign - get as much people as possible to want the game and take it away at the last minute.

Rare's "Conker's Bad Fur Day" had a full update with Xbox Live capabilities.

I'm still optimistic about it's release. Very Happy

Nintendo will never agree on letting an officially sanctioned N64 emulator be made for the 360, and I doubt Microsoft would agree having Rare work on the Wii, and Rare probably won't agree on letting Nintendo or other 3rd party do their own port of Goldeneye for Wii...

EDIT: corrected something

They are bound to be remakes, not emulation. Nor Microsoft or Rare could legally make and/or publicly release an N64 emulator, even less include original roms in it without Nintendo's approval because both contain copyrighted stuff from Nintendo.
Even if they could make the emulator, they couldn't put the rom because, being programmed and compiled with Nintendo's devkits and with, forcefully, many nintendo libraries, it would constitute copyright infringement.

To release an N64 emulator and the original game along with it, they would need to go trough an extremelly complex work of redesigning an N64 compatible platform and clean-room recreate the functionality of all Nintendo's copyrighted code on the rom and certain parts of the hardware (like the PIF and CIC chips).

Why do that when you can REMAKE the game and, in the process, enhance it in any aspects you may want?

EDIT: http://www.mundorare.com/games/banjo-kazooie-xbla/videos
If you pay attention to the video, you'll notice that, even if you consider most enhancements the result of emulation like in your PC, there are things that CAN'T BE ACHIEVED, like the LOD algorithm being seemingly absent since you can see eggs and crap no matter how far they are, which in the original game, emulated or not, won't happen. Objects are culled quite near the view point.
This sole aspect evidences by itself that BK on XBLA is a remake, not emulation.

^ Yeah, I guess it is a remake. I just read that all references to Nintendo have been removed from the game.

And I already knew that an N64 game could never be emulated on another system without Nintendo's approval/code. I was guessing that Nintendo had given approval to BK, which I was obviously wrong about.

Microsoft still is optimistic about its release, according to MundoRare.

In this article, it even shows a HD pic of GoldenEye running with the classic look graphics!
