hey i know im late and all but i just saw a vid that used the half-life 2 engine to make a updated version of goldeneye. It looks great. I was wondering if anyone here has played that version of it yet and how is it. is it worth getting or just stick to good ol fashioned goldeneye.

GoldenEye: Source does look great, but it is multiplayer orientated. Whilst this is not a bad thing, I do prefer to play the original GoldenEye's solo mode solely because I preferred it.

I'm sure that the majority of people here would prefer the original hands down. Saying that, I wouldn't mind giving GE:Source a go myself! Smile

I think it looks awesome but i also mostly prefer playing Goldeneye Solo mode because nobody ever plays me multi in most of my games the only one my friends will play me in is Smackdown vs Raw 2009 Confused so i would have nobody to play it with Sad

No GoldenEye-inspired mod I have ever seen feels at all like GoldenEye. They have the maps, they look pretty, they have music remixes/rearrangements of the originals... but nothing feels like the original.
Explaining why would be a really long rant (those that have talked to me know I tend to speak/write a lot and in a very detailed fashion xD), but, for me, the conclusion is that they are not even close to what goldeneye is.
Now, that doesn't mean they are not good games on their own, but if you are rating them by their ability to capture the essence of the original Goldeneye game... I must say they fail misserably. They are just generic PC FPSs with GoldenEye's levels, characters and weapon selection (and not even the weapons behave similarly).

Original is better, the source just makes this game feel like many other nowadays, good game maybe, but not Goldeneye007.

Yeah I'm also not interested in mods of other games. It's the original engine + GE that I care about. Still, it's not a bad thing people do that.

yea, this mod is not quite the same goldeneye, but is DAM CLOSE. I know everyone here on this site love 007. Let me tell you that this mod is worth trying out. Nothing will ever be as good as the original. but the devs over there did a great job and they are still in the beta phase. Of course, I'm not saying you should stop playing the original. Nothing is even on par with this version. But this mod is decent change of pace with the same feel of the original. check out some video of it i got off youtube.
