 |
|
First off, I'm new to this site and love what everyone is doing. The fact that Goldeneye is still loved by many as it is by me and my friends is great.
Ok, so I have an idea and am wondering if it's possible. I've seen some people talk about different methods of splitting the screens up (to prevent screen peaking) when playing multiplayer on a console. We've done the cardboard thing and, even hung a sheet from the ceiling that would split the screen. Those things work alright, but only for splitting the screen two ways, not four.
My idea is, would it be possible to use some type of splitter to display the game on four different tvs? You know when you walk in to Best Buy or other tv retailers and they have multiple tvs showing the same movie or show? They have to be using some type of splitter. If you can display the game on different tvs, then all you would have to do is tape black construction paper over the other players screens on each tv. Then, everyone could play on their own tv without being able to see they're opponents. You could even set it up on a round table and it would be a little goldeneye lan type thing.
Anyone ever tried this? I'm curious what type of splitter you would need. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, keep up the good work. |

GE Master, the owner of this forum, as well as the GoldenEye Forever website, often plays split-screen with his buddies. They split the signal and send it to four different television screens, allowing each person to have their own monitor. He used to have a tutorial here, but it doesn't seem to work, anymore. He may be able to fill you in more.
I'd think it'd be a simple splitter (like the ones you use for audio cables, to convert between stereo [left and right channels] and mono), which would splice the signal into two. You'd plug extensions into those ports and run them into other televisions. You'd need to do this a few times in order to get four screens going. An employee at a Futureshop/Best Buy or Radio Shack should know what you'd need.
You may also need cable extensions for your N64 controllers, depending on where everyone is sitting in the room. _________________

Good idea on the controller extensions, hadn't thought of that yet. Was planning on buying some anyway. Would pobly come in handy. |

Can you split an analog video signal on an RCA cable? I didn't know you could do that.
My suggestion would be to buy an RF switch such as this
You plug that into the back of your console and the signal coming is co-ax and goes to either channel 3 or 4 of your tv.
Then you run that signal into one of these:
From there you can run up to 4 co-ax cables to all of your tv's. |

Yeah, thats pretty much what I had in mind. I guess there shouldn't be any reason that wouldn't work. I'm gonna try this out soon. Thanks BMW, and also I love the work you've done with multiplayer maps. Only tried a few, but plan on trying more once I get a 25 pin M-F cable for my gameshark. |

I use the thing BMW mentioned it works fantastic the only problem is it's never very practical IMO.
Although that other device Extremist posted looks so insane. _________________ Proud Member Of The G.N.A.A. |

Has anybody ever figured out a way to do an "extended desktop" to quarter your screen into 4 parts (sending each quadrant of the screen to its own monitor) ? Surely there are video cards out there capable of doing this.
Now that would be sweet to be able to play 4-player, enlarging each quadrant to fill up the entire screen. You could also pull this off with an original n64 console - you'd just have to have a tuner card in your computer as well. |

Guys, what about something like this? Looks like it splits the AV cables. That would be way better than using co-ax cables, right?
Looks like you can find these 4 way splitters on Ebay for $15-$20. Then you'd just buy some extra AV cables to hook up to all the tvs.
BMW, I'm don't know anything about splitting the screen up on pc. I know what your talking about though, and should work, at least in theory. Although, I wouldn't know the first step to take in making that work. Would be sweet tho. Never thought of the tuner card thing. Pretty cool ideas. |

That looks great JoeyD.
I wonder, though, if the splitting it does will match the game's splitting.
Also, it seem's it would not support 2 player games as it seems to be fixed for splitting in 4 |

It can and has been done with online emulation. Myself and GE_Master did it once. Just a case of covering the other players screens with windows. It works very well but you need to trust the other players! |
