I was wondering what the chronology of the Bond movies is. All I know is Quantum of Solace is a direct sequel to Casino Royale.

So, what is the chronological order of the Bond movies?

For some reason, people think that Casino Royale is set before Dr. No which makes no sense. It isn't a period piece, they didn't have the technology and cars, Bond hadn't met Felix Leiter until Dr. No and then Bond is introduced to him in Casino Royale. The only solution? Reboot.

Personally, I don't really think the timeline matters a whole lot in the Bond universe. There are some entities that tie them together, but they all seem to stand alone fairly well. It isn't like you need to see "Dr. No" before seeing "From Russia With Love" or "Goldfinger", to get a sense of what is happening in the story. That's one great thing about the series. I'm not sure if the novels string things together more, though.
