I don't really like this one. Also, I believe that general opinion here is that it doesn't hold the GE essence and it's just yet another generic PC fps only with GE themed stuff, but it doesn't play like GE, doesn't move like GE, doesn't FEEL like GE...
Personally, I don't have a problem changing my opinion if future development starts to capture the real GE feel, but until then I'm not very excited about it.

Wow, did you just speak for everyone on this message board? I wasn't aware that this community was so anti-source. Now that I'm aware of this, I will stop posting updates to this mod for you. Thanks.

Don't be so sarcastic. It's just that there have been many GE Source promotion posts in the past.
As I said, I will wait to see how it all turns out. Rest assured that people here know about GE Source and those interested are sure to follow it in the appropriate sites.
This forum/subforum is for the ORIGINAL GE. This post would be more fitting for the Cool Links and Websites subforum, not for this one, but even there, I wouldn't expect much enthusiasm.

I think someone is a little sensitive. I mean if your goal is advertise this then you shouldn't stop because one person expressed dislike towards it. If you do then you're not doing a good job.

I personally enjoy this. I think its really fun to play remakes of goldeneye levels in a different game or engine. I mean its not the exact same but I think its almost impossible to capture the feel of an original game in a remake.

I think the general consensus is that GE:S is not necessarily a bad thing, but we're interested here in preserving and reusing the old, quintessential way, GE's "essence", while GE:S is saying the opposite (we want a new path forward with the classic levels but not the classic feel).

I already know that GE:S sucks.
Just like that PD remake, they really destroy the soul of the original ones.

New GE/PD isn't needed, they are still tons better games that any source game will ever be.
Very Happy

I think GE:S is a wonderful project. It's great to see what these guys are doing with a decade old game, trying to bring everything up to speed, with both performance and graphics. Each new map or character I see, I'm quite interested in. The Cradle is still an incredible accomplishment. Basstronix also creates some great music tracks. I'm always happy to see more content get released.

Now, onto the flipside of the coin...

I joined the GE:S message board back when there were only a few levels and two character models. I posted comments, questions, suggestions, compliments, etc. However, everyone seemed to just look at me like some kind of dumb newb who should keep his mouth shut. A guy who had been playing and hacking GoldenEye 007 (the real GoldenEye 007) for over eight years (at that time), going completely ignored. My knowledge and experience apparently meant nothing to nearly every member there, including the modellers. That being said, I stopped going back. Why bother trying to help if all your words fall upon deaf ears? I guess they know better...

And by the way: Jumping and Ragdoll Physics = Blasphemy

Tell some of the team to get some "killed" animations, with no Ragdoll Physics involved. Twisted Evil

Yeah, what is it with ragdoll physics, anyway? Everyone acted like they were the greatest thing ever a few years back. I suppose they're better than some of the older PC games, with one death animation for each model, but GE's randomized pre-recorded deaths look so much more realistic. Well, maybe not realistic, but GE is a game based on a movie, and the guards die exactly how you'd expect them to if you were watching a movie. (Just collapsing into a pile on the ground with limbs everywhere is no more realistic, anyway.)

Jumping...I wouldn't say blasphemy. The implementation used by every FPS I've played, where you character somehow gains almost twice their height and retains full control, yeah, that's blasphemy. But a while back, I drew up plans for a semi-realistic FPS engine, knowing full well I could never actually make it happen. For jumping, I had a special type of clipping on the map, a jump surface. If you ran into this near full speed, your character would jump. This would be used to cross small gaps and the like. The jump would be very realistic, gaining very little height, crossing very little distance, and removing almost all movement control from the player. If you walked up to it at a slower speed, nothing would happen, it would act just like a wall and prevent you from falling. There would be no jump button, so no idiots bunny hopping around the entire map, like I've seen in some games.

As for GE:Source, I can't really say. The maps look great, the music is nice, but I've never played it. My computer can barely run HL2 Episode 2 at full speed, and I know I'd just bog everyone else down in multiplayer. When GE:Source gets its single player element, I think I'll be able to enjoy it, even if it's not 100% identical to the original.

Team Fortress 2 has both. Those look pretty good actually.
Anyways I enjoy playing GE:Source, but to be honest, it doesn't catch the original GE feeling. It's an excellent mod, but it shouldn't have been called GoldenEye Source. :/

Well they are using the source engine and goldeneye levels so Goldeneye: Source seems like a fitting name. If they named it Feels Like Goldeneye: Source I would object to it Very Happy
