To many, it is a perfect arena for death matches. It has been remade from scratch and put into countless game mods to be played online. But what secrets does the original hold? What possible mistakes, or forgotten architecture is there? What has gone unknown for too long? I present my findings to you...

Yes, water. Due to the fact that the RGB values for each vertex were nulled out to zero, it appears perfectly black in-game. There's only two ways to know that there's even water down there. The first, is to fire a bullet down into the blackness. You should hear a nice little "splash" sound when the round connects with the texture. The other way, is certain emulator plugins don't properly render the RGB of rooms. Everything appears fully lit, making the water stand out like a sore thumb.

Even more watery goodness. Same details as above. Why was it all blacked out? Well, it doesn't really look all that great, for one. Perhaps it was temp, or the developers couldn't decide on water or abyss. It's possible that they held onto it until near release, when they finally chose to get rid of it. Either it was too late in the process to go in and remove it, or the guy who wanted water simply blacked it out. Now, whenever he fires his pistol down there, he can still hear the splashing.

Missing architecture, which if you look into the room files, you'll find isn't exactly missing. At the very end of the vertices, you'll find eight leftover, unused points. Also, at the end of the indices, a texture is setup to be used, but isn't. By forcing them to be drawn, you can add it back into the map. However, all of the vertices share the same X coord. What that means is that, well, it doesn't form a triangle. No triangle, no visualization. After adjusting the X coords accordingly, the missing walls re-appear, with perfect texture alignment.

With a little guesswork and manual labour, the walls are complete. What happened that caused these pieces to go unused? Feel free to check out the files and judge for yourself...

Here's something intriguing. Originally pointed out to me by Zoinkity, the undersides to the lower walkway actually have their own draws. However, you can never actually see them from below. Why bother including them if the player can't even look at them? Maybe they simply double-sided all of the walkways in the spiral and didn't think to lose the lowest ones. Or, could it be possible that you could go lower than that at one point?
*note: I recoloured the walkway blue to make it stand out.

A single blank triangle at the top of the room, just above the doorway. This is quite odd, really. I can't even come up with an explanation as to why this could be. They were able to handle hard shadows in many other situations, why not this one?

And for fun, the bridge from PD recreated for GE. A combined effort between Zoinkity and myself, who were both working on it at the same time. His modified clipping file and my customized room file. Was this ever intended for GoldenEye? It certainly feels right having it in.

Knew about the water for a long time. I always figured they blackened it to give the illusion of those pits being a lot higher than they really are (you can hear the water down there, but can't see it). I also noticed those missing walls when I was putting glass up there in my Complex mission, but just figured it was done for stylistic purposes.

The water is probably common knowledge by now, but I'm sure there are still many out there who don't know about it. I had no clue until emulating the game on a lower-end computer using a poor graphics plugin. It was quite the shock to see what's normally a black void being filled with blue/purple water. That little touch makes such a drastic change. It'd look quite nice, if done properly.

I knew about the water for a long time, but wondered why it was black. I'm wondering why the is railing on only one side in Room 02.

Are the room #s in order in Complex? I know Silo they're completely whacky and that sort of thing indicates massive rework.

I think I'm in love with the Complex.
Is it possible to be in love with a game platform? I bet it is in the States....

No offense Aries, but bad spelling can confuse people. Just saying.

Complex is my favourite level, keep up the good work Wreck!

I wonder if Complex is supposed to be bigger.

I did know that there is water in the V shaped area but not in the ramp area.

I know about the wall and walkway. I think the developers were to lazy to add it in.

That's about all i know.
