I found a Midi to MP3 converter and it renders the midi differently than Windows XP's Software Midi Synthesizer.

The only video I know of where the original song is featured is a video for the Mosin Nagant's history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhAlKU7P8Xc

Going to see if I can make a version later on in FL Studio or something. I learned to read music last night and I'm almost finished learning to play by ear. Razz

You can always download the video with a flv down loader and convert it to mp3.

I did it myself here http://www.mediafire.com/?42dzlxkmqve

The problem is the quality is not quite the same.

I could just record from stereo mix after lowering Wave some to eliminate distortion and get a very clean recording.

What is it called? I have a Midi to Mp3 program but it renders the Midi a bit differently (most programs do)

And then I have this other program called Widi which 'translates' Mp3's and stuff to Midi.

Sorry for necromancing this thread, but I finally got around to arranging "The Rain" using GoldenEye soundfonts:

http://www.last.fm/music/Arc-Demon/GoldenEye+007%3A+The+Citadel

There wasn't a "choir" sound file high enough to adequately do the voices, but I think I found a suitable instrument. Wink

Now on to do some album art! Very Happy

Fortunately, I just made a video with carefully picked pictures of rain in cities... and citadels, a few with rain.

I included as many versions as I could in the description as well as yours and there is more to come.

I'm beginning to wonder if your obsession with this song is healthy. Laughing

I kinda like this rendition:

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/227466

& anybody have any idea where this came from?

http://web.archive.org/web/20060617234405/goldeneye.detstar.com/beta/miss9citadel.jpg

I'd like to have a fake pic to go with the 'fake' song, but I hope I don't have to make it from scratch.

It's on this page:

http://web.archive.org/web/20060716060209/goldeneye.detstar.com/beta/thecitadel.asp

Doesn't matter anymore anyway - I'm using the thumbnail instead of the paperclipped image on the folder.

Amazing what you can do with filters (image-heavy):

Original:

Accented Edges:

Cross Hatch:

Film Grain:

Smudge Stick:

Sprayed Strokes:

Water Color:

Which one looks best?

For me it's a tie between Accented Edges, Smudge Stick, & Spayed Strokes.

There's a larger, recon-photo copy of that fake but it seems to be missing from the archive. I wouldn't know where to get it anymore; Detstar was pretty much the last place for that kind of thing, Sub's page focuses on the real stuff. No clue what was originally used for that photo. I'm still amazed people actually fell for it, though, it's clearly an actual building and not something from the game.

I like the Film grain personally; but I've always wondered where that picture came from

Can someone find the original?
i mean the cathedral like structure in the background not the picture itself

I fell for it. Embarassed

But I thought it was a GS hack to just display the image.

If we all search, maybe we can find the original image! Very Happy

I guess I was more of a pessimist, but all of the fakes back then looked...well, fake. The citadel, the moon base, the solo temple. I think they were all faked by the same person, but the latter two didn't have photos. Of course, I also remember people claiming the real citadel was fake when it was first discovered, too, which was completely irrational. You can't magically generate a stage background with a few lines of codes.

When archive.org stops acting up, try this:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.geocities.com/ace1074/

That's the old TGS site, before it moved, and it may be archived there. If not, try all of the pages in the links section. Back then most of the sites had the exact same content (TGS was always the best, though). Wish I could remember the name of the site that closed right before I found TGS. I remember they had translations of all of the Russian text in the game, but that's about it.
