lol, well theres no way XP is going to be supported for next 10 years, most people have 32bit XP and MS is making strong push towards 64bit. After 10 years 128bit or something will probably be mainstream. And there has already been rumors of support for 128bit architechture in Win 8 / 9

lol, 128bit? they have barely started with 64bit. I don't think 128bit will hit the market anytime soon, ox.
I would like to read that info you have though.
I think they'll probably turn to quantic computers or at least non-silicon machines before they reach 128bit system based on current tech, at least for the computer market.
64bit potential has yet to be fully tapped. Programming and processor design and manufacturing has plenty of room for expansion in the 64bit area. It would be foolish for the industry to leave all the investments they have done in this to start over for the sake of 128bit which is mostly overkill for most things today and for a good while.
only practical use I can see right now for 128bit CPUs that could have considerable mainstream use would be in IPv6 networking hardware since IPv6 addresses are 128bit long and could see some benefit from 128bit CPUs, but IPv6 is still far from taking over IPv4 for the public internet.

128bit?

That would be killer to see

and btw, not all computers last 2 years guys. And XP will be left out in the dust by then I'm sure just like 95, 98, and 2000 are.

Yeah, right now 64-bit has barely caught on in terms of software. 64-bit processors are the norm if you go out and buy new hardware today, but most software is still 32-bit. Supposedly Windows 7 will be the last version of Windows with a 32-bit version, but 32-bit software is still going to be around for a long time after that, believe me. 16-bit software stuck around until the past few years when the 64-bit hardware itself drove it out. Until single programs actually start requiring over 3GB of memory, I don't think there will be much of a push towards 64-bit, even if it does offer other advantages.

Technology begats technology.. Computer years are like dog years..

Eight years old and it may as well be 50+ years outdated..

Youre right that most software is 32bit, but 64bit support has become better and better. And looking at it now it most likely will take over 10 years for 128bit architechture to become mainstream, but i wasn't saying that it's coming anytime soon, my original point was just mostly towards XP and 10 years.

But anyways about Win 8 / 9 there supposedly was information leak about 128bit support by someone called "Robert Morgan", google him and 128bit and there will be many pages with some info related to it. It could be fake info though since its MS hasn't said anything officially, but theres many pages with info related to it.
