I've seen many pre-release videos/screenshots/etc. (including the box) and noticed the reduction of blood throughout the game's development cycle (which doubtless you all know about). I watched a video of seemingly early beta game play and saw how little blood there was (i.e. the amount there is now) and I'm starting to wonder what stage in development the realistic blood (i.e. the back of the box) was actually in session... This also makes me wonder if the textures still exist/can be modified in some way either via GameShark or the Setup Editor... Does anyone have any idea? _________________ You blew up my CamSpy, you insensitive jerk! |

Not sure if you've ever had a chance to check it out or know of its' existence, but I had actually hacked out a "Blood Mode" code for GoldenEye. It modified the hit image for the spark and smoke effects that appear on all body parts of a character. There was an unused blood effect still intact. The colour was a little brighter than what was shown on the back of the box, but that could have been an attempt at making it look less realistic just before being swapped out. The blood could have brought the rating to "M", rather than the final "T" that they ended up with. Back then, that could've meant the difference in a lot of sales.
Unfortunately, I don't have the codes handy. However, here are three screenshots of it in action...

Actually, I did know about those, because I saw them in a video somewhere and thought they weren't real; I can see why Rareware didn't use them XD

Is the one I have at least... The spurts themselves seem large in comparison to those screenshots though o_o
By "still intact" I guess that means the others were taken out completely :/ That's somewhat depressing, but what can you do? I almost hoped there could be something like Perfect Dark's "Perfect Blood" code that could be found, but I don't really know how it would work... Oh well. The Blood Mode is still really cool so I guess it doesn't matter XD _________________ You blew up my CamSpy, you insensitive jerk! |

Wreck: I most definitely agree on the difference in the amount of sales for Goldeneye with the inclusion of blood. People, especially paranoid parents of under-teenage kids, would probably freak out and not let their children get the game. I first got Perfect Dark when I was 13, but it was released 5 years earlier so that was way back in 2005. I wish blood was in the final release. |
