So I noticed the trailer for the new season of Dexter posted on the main website. Just wondering if anyone else here is a fan of the show?
I watched season two for the first time last summer and power housed my way through the other seasons on tvduck.com..
I just thought I'd make a topic for discussion of the show, season four really changed the rules of the game, so I think season 5 is gonna be interesting to say the least.. _________________ "Inspiration strikes but once.. If you're forgetful, carry a pen." -Me |

Well, I'm definitely a very big fan of Dexter. Not just the television series, but also the novels. However, I often find it difficult to talk with people about it. If you haven't seen certain episodes or entire seasons, you need to be so cautious and tip-toe around all possible spoilers. And, as a fellow fan of the show, you know that practically everything can be considered a spoiler.
I absolutely love the original season. I've probably watched it about three times now, and could easily go another three. Though I enjoyed the second season, I thought three was even better. And the fourth season... that, I would say, is almost right back on par with the first. They always offer up something different, which keeps you coming back for more. I'm sure the upcoming episodes will carry on that tradition of excellence. I just hope that the series ends on a high note. Too many great shows have gone on for too long, usually resulting in a miserable death. Hopefully we won't have to worry about that happening here.
Also I must add that I'm relieved to see that Michael C. Hall is doing alright.
(Haven't seen the trailer for the new season, and have tried to avoid potential spoilers.) _________________

That's a good call on your part, the trailer was released at Comic Con and has a fair number of spoilers that in hindsight probably ruined a couple of the shocking moments that I might have enjoyed..
Anyway, here's a link to a pretty cool Q&A wtih Hall on youtube (no season 5 spoilers)..

I'm thankful for the warning about the new trailer. I was actually considering giving it a look, but knowing now that there may have been a bit too much information given away, I'll be sure to steer clear of it.
Unfortunately, the computer I use at my brothers doesn't have any speakers, so I can't give the interview a watch. Well, I suppose I could, but I wouldn't hear anything. And the last time I checked, my lip-reading skills weren't all that impressive. _________________

Hey, just watched the first episode of season five on tvduck.com (thank you, megavideo).. It was pretty out there, not gonna put any spoilers which is hard to do when you want to discuss somthing but I guess thats what my cousins are good for..
Anyway, odd episode, its definately going to be interesting to see whats in store for Dexter Morgan.. _________________ "Inspiration strikes but once.. If you're forgetful, carry a pen." -Me |

Yeah, when my father had asked if I'd watched it and if it was good, I didn't really know what to say. I mean, I definitely enjoyed it (as I do every episode of Dexter, in some way), but it left you somewhere. Somewhere wondering, "where is this going to take us?". I'm sure the next eleven episodes will keep bringing us closer to that answer.
Heh, this is also the first episode I've watched the premiere of in about three seasons. Kind of nice to see it when it happens, just in case any spoilers pop up.
I also picked up the newest novel in the series, "Dexter is Delicious". I'm about two-thirds the way through it, and it's a pretty interesting story. The side-plot almost seems more suspicious than the main one. Another hundred pages left to go and I guess I'll see if anything major unfolds. _________________

When it comes to the novels, you can think of them as an alternate reality for Dexter. The first book, "Darkly Dreaming Dexter", was the clear inspiration for the show. They both contain the "Ice Truck Killer" character, as well as some of the same crime scenes, but end up being very different. Because of those events, the television series and novels go about on their own paths. Only the second season and "Dearly Devoted Dexter" - the second novel - have even the most remote of similarities. From there on, they're completely independent tales.
DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN SEASONS 1-2
(highlight in order to see better)
Such as...
Doakes still being alive in the novels, but horribly amputated and missing his tongue.
The Ice Truck Killer getting away at the end of the book.
Lieutenant LaGuerta being killed in the very first novel.
There are other things, but I obviously won't get into too much detail here. _________________
