I never know where to stick threads on these forums, since I always feel like my questions apply to multiple forums, but I'll just post this here and whatever happens, happens.
Anyway, I was thinking the other day about all the levels in the game where you can get a grenade. The only two that I couldn't remember having grenades are Dam and Train. For the sake of verification, I decided to look at the action blocks for them in the GE Setup Editor. Train checked out okay, with no grenades, but to my surprise, I found action block 040D. It goes like this:
Quote: | 8F0028 Set Guard Health (0028)
900014 Set Guard Armor Amount (0014)
A0FD00000020 Set Guard ID Bits (Guard [whatever called it])
0200 Resume If Return Value Loop Met
03 Leave The Routine, But When Return Continue From Spot
4607 If Fired A Shot, Return Value Loop
3A07 If Bond Shoots Another Guard, Return Value Loop
3B07 If Guard Killed In Front Of Guard, Return Value Loop
3207 If Bond In Sight, Return Value Loop
3C07 If Guard Within Firing Range, Return Value Loop
0100 Go To Beginning, Then Return Value Loop
0207 Resume If Return Value Loop Met
33 Seed Random Byte
35C807 If Seeded Byte > Value, Go Into Return Value Loop (C8 )
14000100000A Guard Targets Guard, Return Value Loop (Aim at Bond)
0207 Resume If Return Value Loop Met
1A0A Guard Throws Grenade, Return Value Loop
020A Resume If Return Value Loop Met
03 Leave The Routine, But When Return Continue From Spot
2F04 When Guard Stops Moving, Return Value Loop
010A Go To Beginning, Then Return Value Loop
0204 Resume If Return Value Loop Met
0100 Go To Beginning, Then Return Value Loop
04 Terminator |
I then went through the object editor and found that two guards have this action block attached to them, both in the early area of the level after the tunnel. Despite my best attempts at getting these couple guards to go through their animations (fast animation speeds this process up!), I was not able to get them to throw a grenade.
Would anybody be able to explain this action block to me better? Am I wrong to think that it is possible to get a grenade on Dam? |

I think nothing is calling the 0200 Resume if Return Value Loop Met at the start. _________________ Also known as Spyster or Nyxem

It sounds to me like GE hacking related, so I'd say this belongs to the Q-Lab.
Not that hard, ain't it? hacking is hacking... |

Yeah yeah, you have a point. I guess I just looked at it as a general GE question in the sense that I was asking if it's possible to get a grenade on Dam, but I also threw the action block in there, which probably tilted this topic more to the hacking side. Though the description of the hacking forum seems to apply to 'current hacking and modding projects', which I don't consider this question to be.
Either way, mods, I trust your judgment. |

When you bring something up you make it current plus the hacking forum also covers hacking help.
But you do have a point, some forum descriptions seem a bit misleading nowadays, since the forum has seen lots of changes.
I guess that description fits the old scheme where hacks would see development in the Q-Lab and then be transferred to the archive forums on completion.
I treat the Q-Lab as a sort of workshop where general GE hacking is discussed, be it in the form of ROM hacks or codes for cheat engines (AR/GS devices or emu cheat plugins, which all handle roughly the same codes) and then there are the special big projects which can get their own separate forums, like the current GEX and dormant GF64 |
