I often find myself hooking up my obsolete Nintendo 64 console to my TV even though I can emulate on my desktop computer with my two dual-port N64/USB adapters. Emulation is totally better than console, but somehow I keep going back to the authentic hardware. Does this prove that it's aesthetically better to play on an N64 than emulating you're games?

I only own an N64 personally, but I imagine you could get just as much enjoyment playing an emulator as you could with the actual hardware..

You probably keep going back because its a nostalgic feeling..

It's definitely pointless to play the console when the emulator is available since the emulator is way better than the N64 and has a freaking GameShark available all the time. Not to mention there's using the PD Setup Editor with Perfect Dark on Project64 and ROM patches, etc. I think once I get a backup device I'll totally switch to console because I'll be able to play my custom ROMs on my N64 always and there will be that aesthetically sentimental feeling of playing a *REAL* Nintendo 64, not playing a virtual one.

If I could play ROM hacks on actual hardware, I'd spend more time on console. However, since I don't have any sort of backup device, all of my testing and custom ROM play is always via emulation.

Likewise, if the GameShark was a little more flexible, and allowed more lines of code and other abilities - like toggling individual codes on and off from your main list during gameplay - I'd probably have created more custom multiplayer setups for use on console. The benefits of emulation far outweigh those of the N64, which is disappointing to someone who would rather play on the real thing.

I don't think I can vote on this, though. Both methods of playing have their own pros and cons.

Actual console for me.
Of course emulators can do mostly it better, but so what?

I see emulation and hardware as non-mutually exclusive.
There's no "better" option.
Emulation makes possible many things that would never be doable on hardware, but even with that, and even if they eventually reached "perfect" emulation, it would never replace the real hardware, and not just for "nostalgia".

They already had one of those, but it was more Like Quake Arena/Turok Crossover

Turok: Rage Wars

Decent party game, not my favorite

I prefer the console over the emulator. The only emulator I actually like more than the console is Gameboy.
