 |
|
Alright, so I'm getting ready to go to college and I have a choice to make, one of the most important choices of my life, what I'm going to do for a living. I'm torn between being a high school counselor or an FBI agent. This is a decision only I can make, but if anyone here has any thoughts or ideas, I'd like to hear your input. I'm not going to listen to the poll, but I posted one anyway to see what people think, I'm going to follow my heart though. Here are some pros and cons of each I've compiled.
HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Pros
-I have a natural talent for psychology
-I have experience from psych class in high school
-I get to make a difference in people's lives
-I hang out with hot teenage girls all day
-I'm still young and so I can relate to the students
-Not much risk of being shot
-I like teenagers
-I like my high school
Cons
-Probably won't pay a lot
-Lots of college will be necessary
-Not really any job advancement/promotion
-Two of the principles are complete douche bags
-Listening to people talk about their problems all day might get old after a while
-When my students tell me what they've been doing, I might get slightly jealous for not taking the initiative to do those sort of things when I was in high school
-Budget cuts and layoffs are common at schools, due to the economy
FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION
Pros
-Probably pays a lot
-Your partner and you often form close bonds of friendship and are always there for each other
-My partner might be really hot
-I'll be saving people's lives
-I'll be on the right side of the law, instead of the wrong side
-Everyone around me will feel safer and I'll have an aurora of authority and respect
-Travel all around the country
-At the end of the day I'll know that I did good
-Relatively short higher education (21 weeks at FBI Academy)
-I can use my psychology talents to help me solve cases
-It's the adventure of a lifetime
Cons
-Dangerous line of work
-I could get stuck with a desk job, everyone wants to be the field agent, but nobody wants to be the field agent's secretary
-I'll have to deal with idiots and disrespectful people
-Not much time for starting or caring for a family
-I don't know the first thing about law enforcement
-I'll have to move to Quantico to attend the FBI Academy and then move again to Washington, DC to work at the J. Edgar Hoover Building
-I'll have to deal with a lot of death
-People often don't thank you, no matter how good of a job you do
-I might get tied up in bureaucracy and stupid ineffectual laws/regulations that prevent me from being able to apprehend suspects |

Well, it seems as if your leaving a forum of gaming people into your life's hands. I think that decision is up to you. Don't be influenced by what people post too much. It's a hard decision.
All I have to say is:
High School Counselor: Dealing with Parents and Students + You seem smart for what you would be doing [Side note: It's unlikely that you would be counselling in your own school. ]
FBI: Dealing with Criminals and hard work + Saving peoples lives, and building close relationships with your partners. _________________

I know how your feeling, it's not easy to decide what to do when you could literally do anything at this point in your life. Here are some things to consider (other than hotness of workers or forming bonds w/people):
Pay, Education requirements, Ease of entry, and job stress.
Eg. Counselor is lower paying in the long run, does usually require a masters degree, it's relatively simple to get in pending you have the schooling, and would be a very low stress job.
FBI on the other hand is high stress, but with that comes high pay. Relatively difficult to get into, you'll have to be top of your game for many years, but the reward will be being part of an elite group of people.
Consider to yourself what you want out of life, who you are and what you enjoy. If you like schooling, learning, and advancing yourself in knowledge and as a person, FBI would be your path.
If you enjoy working directly with kids (regardless of what they may look like), being open with people, and going home with a sense of accomplishment every day then counselor would be your forte.
I strongly urge you, like acceptable did, to deliberate with yourself and figure out what it is you want out of life.
Do your research, extensively, into each field. Talk to people in that field. It may be difficult to find an FBI agent, but law enforcement personnel in general (specifically, police detectives) will be able to provide you with some incite into what that line of work is like.
I'm Security Forces for the Navy, so I can't provide more than just a basic knowledge of what it's like to be in law enforcement, but feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat.
Good luck in your job search, either way you go, you'll have a pretty rewarding career. _________________ "Inspiration strikes but once.. If you're forgetful, carry a pen." -Me |

I agree with acceptable67 to.
This is a life changeing thing man.
You have to pick on thing you like mostly.
Being a FBI Agent sownds so cool but at the same time your putting your life in danger.
Being a counselor seem a bit boring to me.
But its nice to take care of kids and teaching them and everything.
Your on your own with this since your asking video gamer on this lol.
I say go with FBI.
You probly will have more fun with your job.
Make new friends.
And your job will be new and never the same. _________________ There totally nothing to read here. |

If you want a family, high school counseler.
If you're more of an independant person and live for yourself and not others, go with the FBI agent. |
