Read this Cracked article that completely fails at doing the slightest bit a research on GoldenEye (despite getting the other things referenced correct). It's an article about easter eggs that took years to find. While not technically an easter egg, I understood why it's on the list. I can't explain why, but I understand it. So then I read some of the paragraph and I'm confused as to why it's talking about the island. The one we found launch day. It goes on to talk about the WTW cheat you use to get to the island. That's nice and all, but that's not the Citadel. The Citadel took years to find, access, and put into a playable state. It's one of the (in my personal opinion, the) greatest achievements of N64 hacking. Here is the first result for "citadel goldeneye" on Google. They lightly fact check this stuff. Seriously?

I'm sorry for getting so angry; I've had a lot of pent up anger lately.

I guess the game has passed onto the realm of "Myth" now.

Horrible article. I don't understand why they use the XBLA leaked image for Goldeneye.

Wow thats just sad.

I mean i seen the beta dam befor this article.

I got to agree with you with the citadel that was one of the best hacking achevments i ever seen.

It beat the beta dam by miles.

For whatever reason, Cracked's video game articles are almost always poorly done. It wouldn't surprise me if the extent of their research is reading a few posts on GameFAQS and calling it a day.

In this case, the author doesn't quite seem to understand what classifies as an easter egg, even though he describes it quite well at the beginning of the article. As the name implies, easter eggs are meant to be found; they are added intentionally by the developers, in the hopes that players will find them. Then the author goes on to list things like playing as Master Hand, which was an unintentional glitch. As D1Hazel mentioned, the Citadel doesn't even really count as an easter egg. (The island does, even though this was not its original purpose.)

Mistakes like mixing up GoldenEye's island and Citadel, or the statement that the Chris Houlihan room can only be found in the North American version of LTTP (or, for that matter, that battles were fought over its inclusion) could have easily been avoided with a quick Google search.

To top it all off, they end the list with the two player mode in Duck Hunt. They even mention that, yes, it was in the manual. In my eyes, this should automatically disqualify it as an easter egg (since it was never really intended as a hidden secret) and as something that took years to find (unless they're ignoring the thousands of people who read the manual). If the list were "9 things you didn't know about your favourite video games", absolutely, Duck Hunt would qualify.

The article also seems to confuse NARPAS SWORD with JUSTIN BAILEY
