Olllooo ....

If plumber' tape is what we down here commonly know as "teflon"
(goes in pipe joints & such)
yes i tried it too-
same result, depending on how well you do the job, it will wear and start to bunch up sometimes sooner , sometimes later

I'm going to illustrate the problem with trying to revive it using tape and such:

Figure A is the normal shaft of the white thumbstick part
Figure B is pretty much what happens to it
Figure C is how it ends up after using an accurate piece of tape -

The problem with c is that those Red areas become a problem- since they become thicker, after a week of very rough play those fat areas start to peel and you end up with a stuck controller or the black "swings" worn worse or even broken...

The ideal thing is to restore the shaft to figure A quality -
But that does not address the wear of the "swing" parts -
try putting a new "shaft' with old & worn "swings" and you will still have problems with some games.

I'm having another thought. The sensitivity issue likely can be resolved via emulator settings. That's just a thought. I'm not sure about dead zone or delay which affects ssb. Is that a tweak of the emu settings? Perhaps.

I realize my other avenue is considering how the Xbox 360 controller can be configured. I'm sure people have dedicated the a,b,x,y buttons to be the c buttons. I'm looking at all the options.

Subby, good call on the youtube video. I now know the name of the company making these. That's actually a good thing. The origin!

Heh, yeah. Personally, money is not object! Geez I paid $2 for a thumbstick that is flawed and rendered my controller basically useless. No thanks.

The problem is, there is only one Nintendo. They have how many years making quality products? Yeah, exactly.

It seems I'm motivated to do this repair with plumbers tape. So I will. I'm also realizing there are a few different varieties of tape. Wrong tape could prove fatal...

Ollllo here:

Whatever you do, be careful.
Now - the tape fix will only repair left & right -
to repair the tip of the White stick it is an entire other animal-

If you have many controllers - see what parts you can use, see if you have better white sticks ,better up & down swings and choose the best left/right swings-

for general testing on the console Bomberman 64 is the most accurate game to test 90%+ of the range (this was the game that started the whole mess for me - it is unplayable with worn sticks)

The seam at the end of the tape and the start point must be on opposite sides, otherwise one of the directions (since the accuracy is millimetrical)
will be more functional than the other.

I see many links for replacement sticks, some dead.
the normal price for the ones i used to buy 5 years ago was about 6 american dollars (60 to 70 pesos)

For emulation yes, the 360 controllers with the mechanical resistance contraption that its sold out there (made of rubber) feels fine-

Keep all old controllers, remember that after the thumbsticks, the next things to go are the carbon contacts on the rubbers.

Well I still continue on my quest. Haven't done the repair deal yet. My sticks actually aren't that dead yet and sounds like doing this is a last resort situation.

I did get a reply from Hyperkin on their Facebook page and they know about the issue with their replacement stick. They also said stay tuned for something new in the new year. They also said they like the GC stick better. How about one that works properly? Then we can decide?

Olllloooooooohhhhhh

that PSX mod gives me a headache - thank goodness i avoided such monstrous modding--

I can do some electronics stuff , but i'ma brute (like a chimp trying to use human tools)
the mechanical solution is better but i guess way too costly -

If i could i would end this nightmare for GE master & the patch makers for the vault (at least) by sending you pieces - but how can i send stuff & be completely untraceable &
2- sending stuff is costly & not guaranteed that it will get there from mexico
