As a crazy question: Has anyone hacked this or got the format down? We were playing it last weekend and pondering on the matter.

Hi MRKane,

I was able to put customs maps inside the rom but never tried to go further.
You should visit the biggest Super Mario 64 hacking community: http://jul.rustedlogic.net/forum.php?id=41

New levels have to be OBJ files just like in GE/PD. You don't need to do clipping as the importer calculates collisions automatically. Textures can be png with alpha, so transparencies are very easy to do.

Get the importer, tutorials and some documentation from the author's website: http://sites.google.com/site/messiaen64/level-importer
I used v15 of the importer and now there's 16. This new one has a visual editor so it should be easier to work with it.

To add enemies, stars, coins, etc to your custom levels I think you have to do it with Toads tool 64: http://homepage.mac.com/qubedstudios/ToadsTool64.htm
The program hasn't been updated in years but I don't know about other tool to do this stuff.

Lastly, there's a midi importer for custom music. Well, maybe not really midi importer but you can start with a midi and after some tweaks you have your custom music in the rom. The download link is in one of the messages of this threat: http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=9612

Hope that helps.

Well i'm an old Super Mario 64 mapper here. I used to make maps for this game before Goldeneye. And i do say what sogun said is all 100% right. Now TT64 is the main editor for Super Mario 64. If you want to make your very own map your gonna need Blender or DeleD. these 2 modelers are amazing for map making.

Now TT64 still can't let you add onto the main levels as in add more objects. Its only replace and move.

Other then that. The Super Mario 64 hacker community gotten far over the years of hacking and i'm impress on how well they are doing so far. Smile

I've made a mistake here guys! I meant to say "Mario Kart 64"! Not that I'm not interested in the Mario stuff, might go have a looksie and see if I can get into Kart with it!

There's nothing for Mario Kart 64 released to the public.
I know someone is developing an editor but it's unfinished.

All the info I could gather:

I would like to see a Diddy Kong Racing Editor someday. This game has far more possibilities than Mario Kart 64. The only thing I missed back in the day were bigger tracks like in Mario Kart 64 but overall is a better game.
Maybe SubDrag will start with it after he is done with GE/PD. Twisted Evil

I love this forum sometimes as a source of information is sometimes hard to find elsewhere. I consider very good news for someone to worry about making an editor for a particular game, in my case Mario Kart 64 is the editor that most expected. try to get off this editor pareceque incabado but has not been released yet. I hope you do not cancel editor mario kart now that this started. coinsidero also that Diddy Kong Racing also should have an editor, but I bet it is for many other games, hacks, patches and game mods, I think that is what keeps the passion alive still more by the emulation.

Shogun indeed, I loved his translation of goldeneye, I think your blog ever, I think there is still a Hispanic community dedicated to goldeneye and PD as the English-language forum

this topic needs to have it's title changed -

i was going to bring this up too about 2 months ago,
but did not since Mario Kart hacking has not been fast enough

this because i really think that the physics in Mario kart 64 somehow feel better, less "scripted" than double dash's and MK wii -

la inercia se siente mejor (the force of inertia fells better when hit)
banana bunches of 6
blue shells devastate everything in their path

and mario kart wii messed up the 2 player tradition of beating the grand prix cooperatively for everyone....

I'll have to have a look at things when I've got the time. I've often wondered about making a Blender to GE exporter (or at least did before SubDrags toolset got better!). Perhaps when I'm not busy with work I could look at it for Mario Kart.

It's very remarkable that none of those n64 game editors is as well developped as the goldeneye setup editor. That is what I think!
I used to search around the internet for other editors, but none of them had the tutorials, the main site,...not the real overview i was looking for. Since I am not that good at such things I would need help and tutorials. Only here they are still very busy. And that's why it's such a nice place here Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
