Detstar was one of my biggest inspirations for finding beta stuff. His site was amazing. I tried (without success) to make a beta site that rivaled his, and despite more info/pics it never came close. The problem was he lost interest in it presumably, seemed to focus on comics or something, and people just assumed it was the source of beta info, despite the fact it was significantly out of date and no longer as useful as it once was. That said, I still have very fond memories of his site and I might not have been as interested in this stuff without it. Hehe my first website was like “possible locations for Oddjob and rumors”. Oh how far we’ve come.
That generic uploader was nifty, it was one of my earlier forays into assembly, basically just took a routine, looped until a byte changed (by uploader), and uploaded data then sent byte. It was hard to do though because of Windows XP… XP really made me focus less on gameshark (almost to nothing really), and instead on backup devices. I think we realized the GS was just too impractical, with huge efforts for minimial results. That citadel clipping back then was amazing, I still remember playing citadel on console. Heh it was like 90 degrees in a small room, but it was amazing. I think I lost the tape, or maybe it’s on youtube. That work was certainly not wasted and helped add clipping to the editor so now that effort would only take a couple days. |

Actually, I take that back. The ghost of Detstar really is still haunting me.

Fourth comment down. The Spectrum emu wasn't concidered real because Det would have mentioned it. They aren't too hot with N64 stuff anyway, though when it comes to other systems can be pretty detailed.
Aegh. Well, that did get sorted out a lot quicker.
I never cared for Det's site much though. There was a lot of discussion about funky images people took, and conjecture was upheld against hacked data. For instance, most theories about whether there was a secret vent room in Silo and where it is at should pretty much have been shot down when we threw a floor into it and started there. Stuff like that was concidered hoax material though.
To each their own. I just didn't care for the format much, and never quite understood why it was concidered so authoritative. _________________ (\_/) Beware

Wow whadya know. The ghost of Detstar does live.
"You have to remember that all of the articles on this site are works in progress, so it could be that nobody here has found it yet. However, if this was true, then surely Detstar would've found out about it during the time his site was up-and-running, for he had pratically everything Goldeneye on there. Oh, and I wouldn't ask Nintendo, I'd ask Rare. They made this, and a million (read:25) years ago, they made games for the Spectrum, so maybe they were intending on porting some of them to the N64 in a collection-type, like "Intellivision Lives!"? Ah well, we'll find out if this is truly relevant on April 2nd. --Jay "The Brain" Mann 13:30, 29 March 2012 (EDT)"
Surely Detstar would've found it? As far as I know there are 0 gameshark codes credited to Detstar...let alone the thousands of things learned since then. What a silly statement. The part I don't get is how these people end up at those places. It's just strange for someone who's completely clueless to end up always at one of these type posts.
Then again, I've seen people use the same statement about RWP. And it's not quite as equally silly but it is silly. They've found some stuff since the RWP BK/BT heydey. But at least there we really were some semblance of an authority. |

Well, on that note:
The patch has only been "confirmed" to work by one person on RWP, while the other board is not a reliable source for this IMO. --Jay "The Brain" Mann 21:06, 29 March 2012 (EDT)
The confirmation was by you Sub, and the other unreliable board is this one. So, yep, RWP is at least concidered a semi-reliable source. Aegh...
RWP isn't really a hub of hacking nowadays, but it sure has been featured in magazines along with your work and Ice Mario's. RWP seems to lack direction nowadays, although I think it would be a great idea if they acted as a hub for all the other Rare (or general N64) fandom and hacking. _________________ (\_/) Beware
