Simple: Anyone here bought it yet?
I bought it last Friday along with Assassin's Creed 3 and so far....I'm VERY impressed .
The game is just really fun to play.
Nintendo Network and MiiVerse work like a charm and the only complaint I have it that sometimes the OS takes a little long to load.

If anyone here has it, my Nintendo Network ID is CrazyMetroid, so fire me a friend request so we can play Razz

Don't have it because I don't have it. I don't think I'll be able to get it for a year or two. From what I've seen, the Wii U seems amazing.

My brothers girlfriend almost managed to get one the day of release. She was fourth in line, and they only had three at the store. But, she was persistent and kept calling around. She found out that a Wal-Mart in our city had a few in, so she skipped out of work and drove to pick it up. I told her if she managed to score one, that I'd buy New Super Mario Bros. U. So... guess who had to make good on his word?

Anyway, it only took about an hour or so for the bloody thing to update and configure before getting a chance to play it. She nabbed the deluxe version, which came bundled with Nintendo Land. Haven't played all the games, but the few I did try were pretty neat. Mario is Mario. All the games are pretty much the same, just with new features tossed in. Still, is nice to see it in HD, and that they went back to the Super Mario World style overworld.

I think that, as time goes by, developers are going to come up with brilliant ways to utilize the gamepad. I can see Mario Kart kicking a lot of ass, and even a new Mario Galaxy being quite interesting. I'll eagerly be waiting for a new Zelda title, and hopefully we'll be treated to another Donkey Kong Country. Yes, I know I'm only mentioning Nintendo series, but those are a big reason why we bother buying their consoles. With the new HD capabilities, it should give other companies a good reason to work on games (exclusive to or ports of) for the Wii U. This has the potential to help Nintendo grow even bigger over the next year or so.

it looks great, but if the price will fall down as much as the wii did, i'll wait some longer. the wii(nothing else) costed first like 300 euros, and in its last period only 190, plus 2 games and some sport things, like a golf stick.
I am pretty sure many nice games will be created for the wii u, but also a lot of garbage. anyway, mario bros u looks fine Smile

I'm not interested in WiiU yet. The new controller wasn't something I expected and the games available now don't get my attention (with the exception pf Zombie U).

I thought they would improve the wiimote and polish it flaws (more buttons, wireless nunchuk, add the vitality sensor...). After playing games like Metroid Prime, Red Steel 2, Skyward Sword, Tiger Woods and Pro Evolution Soccer you realize that this kind of control has a lot of potential, but it's lacking something for other genres.

I can't imagine how the new controller will improve the 1P experience by a lot, like I did with the wiimote. Sure it has a lot of potential for multiplayer and coop, but I can only think of a few things for a new Metroid to use it.
Navigating through menus, internet, and having videoconferences is cool, but that doesn't affect games.

There are other aspects of WiiU that I dislike, like the backwards compatibility with Wii with no HD. I was expecting a new console powerful enough to emulate it.
Also, I think they should have released a new F-Zero alongside WiiU, showing a powerful online game (up to 30 people at once!, with custom ships, perhaps a track editor...). I have read that WiiU controller doesn't have analog shoulder triggers (WTF?). A game like this one need them, although you could use the gyroscopes too (not as accurate, but more intuitive).

I also think te price is a bit high. But seeing the other consoles prizes I understand it. It's a shame that you could buy a XBOX360 for 300 $/€ seven years ago, and you still have to spend a similar amount today.

EDIT:
@Silvereye
Wii was released at a price of 250€ with Wiisports, and it kept that price like 2 years because it was selling like crazy.
Even that price was a bit high, like with WiiU. I wasn't interested in Wiisports, only in Twilight Princess, so I was thinking that 200€ for the console alone would be a good price, then 50€ for the game.
Luckily my brother shared the expenses and we got Wii+Zelda+Wii Play+nunchuk on the release day.
Even if I have the money I won't buy something that I think is overpriced. Heh, with Wii I would had waited two years if not for my brother.

Big issue there is how those games are outputting a lesser signal. That'd have to build in a signal upgrader, which probably can't be done at software level. This kind of thing can get rather complicated depending on how it's set up.
http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?42764-Direct-HDMI-output-for-N64-%28and-other-consoles%29

I was a tad bit disappointed they didn't use this as a chance to radically upgrade wiimote sensitivity. Then again, they're really just a bluetooth device so it isn't like they couldn't do it at any given time. That's a bit understandable too, since it hasn't been mass-manufactored to the point where the price of the components has significantly dropped.

Personally I feel as though the wiimote itself isn't lacking, just its implementation in games. F-Zero could get away with effectively four buttons and holding the 'mote horizontally. In fact, if did right the 'mote could act much like an analog version of the LR buttons, where turning is a turn and grinding is based on the angle you're holding the stick at. Heck, rotation could amount to your accelerator. Just saying.

.

What do you mean? If you mean that it doesn't have shoulder buttons, it actually has four.

@PaRaDoX
I mean like the L and R buttons in the Gamecube controller. Dreamcast was the first to have them, and XBOX360 and the Play3 use them too (I don't know about the first XBOX).

Digital buttons only have two positons: pressed and unpressed. While analog buttons has a range of positions: fully pressed---pressed a lot---half pressed---slightly pressed---unpressed. Gamecube also featured an extra button when you fully pressed the shoulder buttons (you hear a click).

This feature was used in F-Zero GX to make the ship move sideways, and you could control the speed of that by pressing L or R more or less. In the Rogue Squadron games it was used to control the speed of the turbo and the brake. I don't know since I don't own the game, but the shield attack in Twilight Princess probably uses this too (or the extra button when the R is fully pressed).

Oh well in that case, I think you are correct, don't quite remember if it utilises them.

Part of me is pleased that they haven't made brand new Wii remotes just yet for the console. At least this way, those who own multiple remotes and nunchucks from their time playing the Wii, can use them on new games for the Wii U without having to replace them completely. I'm sure most titles will require a Motion Plus, but that's still better than shelling out for a whole new controller setup. I had to grab one in order to play Skyward Sword, which I had put off for far, far too long. Probably one of my favourite Zelda's to date. Only possibly being beat out by Ocarina, which would be an amazing feat to surpass. The music alone is outstanding.

The Wii Mini should be out now, too. I don't really care for the way the system itself looks, but I'm itching to get me those red controllers. The console doesn't have GameCube compatability, and also doesn't have any online functionality. It's really just a Wii gaming only experience at a lower cost.

Well from what you said about the Wii Mini. I just had to check the reviews on this system. And mother of god. It looks like they turn a once master piece hardware into a fisher price toy. Shocked It looks like they remove nearly all the needed hardware to make it even run completely as well. Since network is completely remove. Even someone tried using the the Wifi USB stick. And that did not even work. Along with that. The SD card slot is completely removed. That also surprise me. Since I use the SD card slot memory more then the Wii main memory. Also they even remove the option to switch from 480i to 480p. So even if you got cords to make into HD. It won't work in the Wii mini. I also read that there might be a possible chance that games might have a little tiny bit of delay/lag thanks to the new replacement hardware.

I have found a good photo of everything that came in the box.

The only thing that is worth getting the Wii Mini is that Red Wiimote. Anything else in there is pure trash in my opinion. Of course we always could get a Red Wiimote though Ebay or something.

I gotta say though. I've always been on Nintendo side since day one. And this system they release... Bring them to a much lower level.. Hell I seen Sony mini version of there PS3. And everything in it remains intact but the option for the SD Card. And the DVD and power touch tone.

While the Wiimini loss nearly every little thing that made the Wii great. like its virtual console. And the DVD light and the Gamecube backup compatibility.

It scares me to think what Nintendo has in mind for the WiiU if they made a mini version of that. Rolling Eyes

Everytime I see the mini Wii I see this XDDD:
http://www.gramfg.com/images/burg4w.jpg

What's the price of a regular wiimote+nunchuk? I think that since the WiiU was released they sell a wiimote+nunchuk+sensor bar for like 60$. Buying a mini Wii just because they are red (even if it's cool to have controllers of different colors) seems a bit too much.

About the mini Wii itself. The lack of the SD card slot is terrible. It's the best way to skip piracy, but Wii homebrew is excellent and probably the reason I used my Wii most of the time (media player, emulators, running games from HDD...). Well, I don't think anyone buying the Wii now is going to miss those.
This generation of consoles is insane, consoles have worse features as the years pass and the prices are almost the same. Only the 360 has been upgraded.

About Skyward Sword, heh, our thoughts differ a lot. I enjoyed the new controls (except for diving), the bosses fights and upgrading the items; but everything else was very dissapointing. Dungeons were too simple, only the desert area was good enough (too good , perhaps the best area in the entire Zelda series). The way they used Fay was terrible too. The music was amazing at the beginning, but once you descend to the land it wasn't as good. Well, this one should have its own topic. Laughing

2 or 3 years ago for Christmas, I got my girlfriend the Mario 25th anniversary edition Wii. It's a red console with red remote and nun-chuck and came with New SMB. That is the only other time I saw a red Wii and red Wii remotes.

Yeah, I think the red was exclusive to the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary console. It seemed like they might have sold the controllers on their own in Japan, but not in North America or else where. Not sure if those were official Nintendo products, or some other third party knock offs. I've been interested in scooping them up for a while, but they can be tricky to find or too expensive.

If Skyward Sword doesn't have its own thread, I'm certainly open to someone starting one up.

I have a U, but have yet to play a new game on it. Pikmin 3 is the only announced one that I'm guaranteed to buy. Passing the time with Wii games that I missed (I didn't own a Wii).

The system has tons of potential, both in the controller and the horsepower. E3 should be awesome!
