Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to put this, but I had purchased a Gameshark recently and it arrived today. Put it in with Super Mario 64, and all I get in the LED is an '8'. I've tried absolutely everything; cleaning contacts, blowing, putting in games from all keycode regions, nada.

I really would like this to work. Any advice?

Flashed double lines on screen, so it's detected. But just blackness.

Basic trick is to pull the shark out just by little so the contacts work better.

There might be problem with the flash program of the gameshark too.

I will try this suggestion. Otherwise, going to attempt to return it and get another. (3 GS's I would have then, ouch.)

The N64 GS dies if you look at it the wrong way.

Hahaha, with the amount of GS's that have died, it's probably true.

Several of my gamesharks have died just sitting in storage. I busted mine out not that long ago (had 3 working ones) and that's down to just 1.

I barely use either of my two anymore. Thought one had died off, but ended up working again. Always ready with a trusty Q-Tip whenever I'm in need of GameShark usage. It seriously seems to help a lot.

Wreck, you mean with 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol ?

I'm kind of skeptical about applying on my slim PS2 eye.. and hopefully it may resurrect my v3.2 Gameshark too

If you have the bricked/broken hardware LED '8' rubbing alcohol won't work.

I went to the store with my friend and bought a bottle specifically for this. Took the cart apart, applied to contacts, cleaned out all the dust. I did get to clean up my N64 carts, though!

If the one coming in the mail works, I can reflash both of my other GameSharks via Piggy Back method, and if all works well I should have 3 working GameSharks.

I just use the plain old Q-Tip. With decent enough pressure applied, it works for me quite often. If a GameShark is screwed up because of a program error or manufacturing issue, this obviously won`t help. But if it just has problems starting up sometimes, a good cleaning isn`t a bad idea.

Got a new one in the mail. Working like a charm. Piggy-backed it with my other 3.x and it reflashed it, so now I have 2 working GameSharks. Smile

Every GameShark I own has died. Its a surprise there still GameShark carts going around the market for the N64 today. But I do say there was one GameShark I own that lasted me for about 6 years. And it was the original version. Any GameShark I own after the original version died on me in less then 3 or 4 months. So I just give up on such a thing now unless I got my hands on another original factory sealed GameShark.
