stolen I think I'm confused at this point. Pehaps you can shed some light on this.
Pistolgrip's version is called what? It's not 1964 Ultrafast? Before I write anything major about this, I need to be clear on these versions. I would say that the v3 Ultrafast was too unreliable with crashes. It may be because we were pushing it with 4 players and such a high resolution. Honestly my hopes are that it will be worked on more. It's a huge revelation to me to see this. So if anything, perhaps PistolGrip needs a name for his version? If his build is more solid, I'm all over it in a huge way. These guys are geniuses in my mind.
One of the keys to having this more enjoyable is obviously having less freeze ups. My buddies aren't aware that it's like game testing in a sense. It's just disappointing to get part way through games and freeze. That is a throwback to Gameshark on the console. |

PistolGrip's build doesn't have a name, which is why I call it PistolGrip's 0.8.5 build. It is based off the 0.8.5 version of 1964, and in my experience, 0.8.5 is the most stable version of 1964 for GoldenEye/Perfect Dark. RetroRalph created Ultrafast, which is a fork off 1964 1.1.

I suspect this is related to Ultrafast, not your video plugin. Versions 0.9.9 and 1.1 introduced some timing support for other games, but caused GoldenEye and Perfect Dark to become unstable. Try out PistolGrip's build and see if it is any different. Just copy over your plugins folder and everything should be fine. |

Thanks for the information! Makes total sense now. You know PistolGrip? Is there a chance he is going to continue with new versions?
I'm excited to give his a try. I will post in your other thread about that. I'm sure I have questions. I hope that I can switch up a few more plugins. I'm not picky. I'll take reliable over anything else.
Thanks again. |

PistolGrip is dead it seems. Last login on emutalk is in February 2011. I PM'd him last week, requesting copy of the source, but I doubt he will reply. |

That's too bad. I tend to overstate things, but on the surface (no pun intended) what he's done for GoldenEye could be quite historical. |

Subdrag may remember this - several years ago we discovered something in goldeneye known as "high resolution" mode. If I recall (and its been a long time ago so I may be wrong about this) Goldeneye supported a higher resolution mode and the only stage that actually made use of it was the final Cuba stage. Seems like if I recall we were able to get other stages to load in this mode but the problem was that they lagged horribly.
This may be something worth revisiting. |

I could've sworn I got hi res mode working for Depot, but when I tried to rehack it now it just crashes. I'm going to play a bit. |

I know I've seen it in action in a solo stage. I still have visual memories of it, I can remember that things like the ammo text were smaller on screen and the smoke from explosions seemed to have more detail. But I can't remember what stage. |

Now the trick is remembering how we did it. I know for sure Cuba loads, but I thought I got Depot to load, and my memory says it had texture problems...but now I'm not sure. |

anyone ever noticed that your automatics shoot way faster on an overclocked emu compared to the N64 original? for example in the first level (dam) I have to reload my soviet way quicker than on my n64. is that fixable?
or just a side effect of having 50 FPS and smoother gameplay? |
