DVD format wars? Crazy but this could potentially blow up huge in Sony's face. If they lose (ala Beta) what does that mean for the system? I put my vote that Sony will end up suffering because of their "blue ray" dvd format. I just don't see gamers spending more money on a movie to be compatible with their gaming device. |

Blu-Ray, hmmm. I havent been following this too well, but hasn't Blu-Ray already been beaten in storage than another format? Why would anyone pay good money for combatability with a format like Blu-Ray when they can just wait alittle for the next one that is ten times better?
And yes, watching movies on a gaming device sounds stupid, but in marketing, is it really? Remember, Sony has gone down this road before with the PSP. If it didn't make money for them then, why would they try it again? Personally, I think watching a movie on a tiny screen on a device that doesn't have enoygh battery life to play the whole damn thing is just plain stupid, but Sony must have made money off it to try the whole "movies on the console" thing again.
But with the alternative staring you in the face, I dought it will get much for Sony. Lets see, buy a stupid format to play on your gaming system, or get a DVD player (cheap as hell now) and watch a DVD. Standard format. You can even take it to your friends house, chances are he has a DVD player too! Wow! Dont try that with a Blu-Ray disc, not everybody has a PS3 you know! |

I think it's good in the long run since Blu-ray has 25 GB storage per layer as opposed to HD-DVD's 15 and DVD's 4.7. That way games can be much bigger and more detailed. The console will probably be too expensive, but I hope I can get a mod to use the original Xbox controller on it. |

It's going to suck if Blu-ray does become the new dvd standard because all the dvd's you own right now will be ported to blu-ray. Therefore, you will be spending twice as much to keep up with your collection. However, it will be the same situation if HD-DVD becomes the standard but the positive point is that the disc wont be as expensive as the blu-ray disc due to its storage capacity.
Blu-ray=50 GB
HD-DVD=30 GB _________________

Blu-ray is the best and most high quality dvd that you can buy on the market today....
if blu-ray movies go out because of hd-dvd (since hd-dvd is 2 dollars cheaper and a 1/3 the storage)
sony would still keep making blu-ray games..........
a lot of people belive if blu-ray movies go out then ps3 will go with it
(laughs) i guess we will all see what happens
I Prefer Quality
Not Quantity |

I believe HD-DVD is better quality than Bluray because it uses an advanced and new codec when Bluray will be using Mpeg4. However, Bluray will have more storage on the disc.
There are websites that compares HDDVD and Bluray but I cant find it at the moment, if anyone can find it, post it here! _________________

Both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray have problems.
I hope that someday there will be a perfect medium that everybody can agree on. _________________ Pure hand-drawn goodness. |

That's why DVD's will still dominate for the next 5 to 10 years because it would be foulish to take out all dvd's from shelves like they did with VHS. There is no point taking out DVD's when only 10% of the population own HD TV's. If you dont have a HD TV, there is no point owning a hddvd or bluray player because the whole point of next gen dvd's is the 1080p resolution. _________________

Which is why I agree with the route Nintendo took with the Wii.
They're focusing on what the general public already has or can afford.
Both Sony and Microsoft were so worried about HD with their new consoles. _________________
