I'm watching Friday Night SmackDown! on the CW tonight, then a preview for the news comes on during the break. They mention a 'serious design flaw' for the Wii. As a huge Nintendo fan, I couldn't wait to watch the segment. The news starts, a few stories go by, until they finally get to what I'm waiting for. The 'serious design flaw' was a faulty strap. A faulty strap. Apparently, because people are stupid and have no concept of gripping their controllers, the Wiimote is flying out of hands and into television sets. There's a strap that goes around your wrist, but it's been either breaking or pulling out from the controller. And since these gamers must be holding onto it extremely loosely, when they attempt to impersonate Happy Gilmore, the strap snaps or detatches from the Wiimote and is sent soaring into tv screens. Since these claims, Nintendo has made a massive recall and is replacing the current straps. They said that the controllers made in December had already been corrected, while you can get a replacement strap for your Wiimote if you've gotten one of the 'seriously flawed design' versions.

Well, I'm glad that it's such a simple, and rather idiotic problem. I thought it was going to be something to do with the hardware itself, or the sensors in the controllers weren't functioning with accuracy. Fingers are still scratching my head as to why they were making such a big deal out of it. Overheating and disc read errors, now those are serious design flaws. That's like buying a watch and having the wrist strap break. The seconds are still counting, but you just can't wear it. What's the point to the strap on the Wiimote, anyhow? Aren't hands good enough to hold onto a controller anymore?

I saw a story on the straps today. I admit it was comical to me. It adds another dimention to gaming, it's the 3d or reality aspect. The kind where you feel pain! Apparently all objects were being smashed! People, windows, glass, tv's. Heh.

I can't figure out HOW they missed something as obvious as that in testing.

My guess is that they didn't hire drunk college students or young children to test their console. That seems to be what the overwhelming majority is comprised of. The rest are either extremely excited and/or stupid. There's even a splash screen when the Wii starts up, warning you of different things. Of course, most people probably pay no attention to it. Thankfully Nintendo has been demonstrating that they have incredible customer service and are replacing straps free of charge. You can blame the Wiimote strap, the people using it, or them both. Still, a stronger strap isn't going to prevent these idiots from smashing overhead lamps, beer bottles, plates, laptops, or their friend's faces. Use some common sense, people.

I have heard that Sony and Microsoft actually paid people to make up these flying wiimote stories, Besides if you look at the photos where they say the Wiimote broke the T.V.'s glass, The damage looks like a Rock went thru the damn thing, My cousin has one and that remote is light as a feather, He threw it at his T.V. and it broke the Wiimote, Just left a tiny scratch on the glass on the T.V.

I will try my luck at the Wii, I have never had a problem with a Nintendo system.

I don't think people are making this up, this story was on the news last night!

the WWE sucks. I watch Raw but Smackdown is way too lame for me. and I'm very pissed at the mockery they made out of ECW. the original ECW was some of the most brutal and awesome wrestling of all time. and now there's hardly ever a hardcore match and many high flying moves are banned. whenever you saw Sabu vs Rob Van Dam in the original ECW, you knew it would be one of the best matches you ever saw. now when you see one of their matches, it is only good. and that sucks. and they are pushing no talents like Bobby Lashley over wrestlers who actually deserve it. sickens me.

Hater.

Totally. Anyway, if you really want to settle the debate, make a topic about it.
