After playing my 360 for over a year, it finally died on me...sad...thankfully Microfost is going to give me a new one for free.

So I was sitting there waiting for Battlefield 2 to load up, then my console just shut down on it's own. When I opened it, I've got three flashing lights, that means you have to send it for repair.

I don't want to scare anyone who is trying to get an Xbox 360 but my 360 was manufactured in September of 2005, therefore 5% of those launch consoles are apparently defective...

I'll let you know when I get my new one back from Microsoft. If you are looking to buy one, now is probably your best bet since they are being manufactured in a different factory than the lauch consoles were and they have been proven to be non-defective.

You're scared? I just bought one of the bloody things!
I understand that the earlier models have a higher chance of being defective than the more recent version, but it's still not something you like hearing. It's good to see that they're sending you a new one, especially for free. My GameCube had a disc reading error, which ended up growing worse. It could barely register that a game had been inserted. With my warranty time up, I had to purchase another one. But my mother didn't raise no fool. We switched the serial number sticker on the bottom, packed it back up, returned it to the store, and received a full refund. A brand new, updated console, for nothing . That's what they get for sticking me with a defective product. My older PlayStation burnt out one day, too. Goes to show you that any system is capable of crashing itself into the ground. I'd recommend an extended warranty, if you can afford it. I didn't get one for my Xbox 360, because it was another sixty or more dollars ontop of the total. Hopefully I won't regret it.

Well there isn't anything to worry about especially if you have the warranty, besides whenever you buy a Xbox 360, just quickly check the box for the manufacture date. If it's in 2006, you should be fine.

Now all I can do for x-mas is look at the xbox 360 games that I will be getting and hoping my new 360 gets in the mail before my second semester starts.

Congratz on your purchase, did you open it yet, what games do you have for it so far? Glad to hear I am not the only one who has a xbox 360 on these forums.

Let me know how you like it so far!

Here are the games I have thus far...

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
The Outfit
Gun
Kameo: Elements of Power
Xbox Live: Arcade Unplugged

I quite enjoyed Ghost Recon, while I was playing it. I ended up getting stuck on a part and haven't touched it since. Well, I'll come back to it sooner or later. The Outfit I didn't care for. Infact, I'd gladly trade it for something else. Gun is really cool. It reminds me of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, with a western twist. Sound weird? That's because it's made by Neversoft, the same company that does the Hawk games. There are plenty of well known actors voicing the characters, like Kris Kristofferson (Blade), Lance Henriksen (Aliens), and Thomas Jane (The Punisher). Plus Brad Dourif, the voice of Chucky in the Child's Play films. There's someone else I'm forgetting, but I think I remember seeing Ron Pearlman in the credits. It's crazy how many actors are getting into video games. Anways, on to the last game. Kameo was a lot of fun, though frustrating at times. Certain locations, both cinematic and gameplay, feature beautiful colours and scenery. There was one part where you have to push these big lumps of burning cole onto catapults that was magnificent. It was night, with explosions plowing down everywhere, the sky lit up with stars, warp gates shining toward the heavens, fire raging from the canons, trolls battling elf warriors on the horizon. It was an incredible sight. The music, as well as in Gun, is fantastic. I'm really stoked about the new Banjo-Kazooie game now.

After spilling all of that, you can see that I'm happy with my purchase. Smile

Okay, on the original post, that sucks dood. The nice thing is M$ has lots of money and likely will repair or replace a 360 even if beyond their supposed warranty. I'm saying this, they are releasing a different version 360 at some point with less heating issues. For that reason, don't worry guys. They will replace if you have issues. Just wait, Sony will have their turn also.

Cool! That's amazing, looks like I'll be picking up Gun for X-mas.

I'm not sure if this is something I should be really concerned about or not, considering that the game it has occured on was used. Not that it's in rough condition, but there is some light surface scratches and a soft smudge on the disc. It's happened twice in the same day. I'll be playing the game, then it freezes. The music stops, the controller doesn't respond, and the Xbox 360 Dashboard doesn't come on when the disc is ejected. I need to power down and restart. Which is a pain, since it requires me to do the stage over again, unless I got a save in. It's only been one game so far, but I haven't tried another since then. I'll post about this if it returns while playing a different title.

Do you position your Xbox 360 horizontally or vertically? When the 360 is moving, never move the 360 from one position to another because it will scratch your disc. It seems to be that your 360 does not like your disc, you can always bring it to a video game retailer and they will clean it for you for 5$ eliminating most of the scratches...

I have my console sitting horizontally, so that it's sitting flat. I've read that vertical positioning can burn out your drives faster. Besides, I prefer the way it looks this way. It kind of scares me to think of it falling over with it standing up right. I never move it around while it's running. Infact, it has been in the same place for over a month. Nothing is blocking the air vents, as I made sure there was enough space all around it. None of the other games have had this happen, but I haven't tried any other since. Might as well tell you all what game it is: Halo 2. Funny thing, it's only done this when playing on Normal difficulty. I beat it on Easy, then tried going back through on Normal. The first stage froze up, then it did it again when boarding the Scarab. There's also this odd visualization problem that occurs from time to time, which looks like silouettes in fog. It makes it hard to see the upper portion of the screen. Eventually it passes, but comes back later on in some missions. Could this be because it's an original Xbox game being played on a 360? That might explain some of the rendering issues. Maybe I need to download a patch to correct this, as well as allow other games to play? I can't play my Doom 3 that I bought, so I need to look into that.
