Does your graphics card not support hardware acceleration for DirectX?

i just found out that i don't even have a graphics card, so that sucks, and i'm assuming that i can't use the visual editor without it.

LOL, you must have a graphics card - even if its an onboard device, you have one.

Go to your device manager (start menu - settings - control panel - system - hardware - device manager) and click on your "display adapter" - post the data on here and I can look up that information and tell you if your display adapter supports directX

I think the issue is the editor only supported HAL mode, I could make it just REF if HAL fails, I don't think it would work well but I could try it as an option.

Can you download this version, overwrite your old version, and let me know if it works now:

Since you're failing on create device, this should fix that. It tries HAL then REF then SW. If SW fails you're out of luck. It'll prob be slow or horrific. Let me know how it goes.

After doing a little research, I was able to duplicate the same error on my computer.

What do you have your screen colors set at? If you are set to 16 colors or 256 colors, you will get the create device error. Change it to "high color 16 bit" if this is the problem (right-click on your desktop, click properties, go to the settings tab, look at colors)

when i first went to see my color settings it was already at high color 16 bit and now when i go to the visual editor it says "Error Direct3DCreate9". that was the original error before "Error CreateDevice" the bottom line is that i'm totally and completely confused.

Go to your start menu, go to "run" and type "dxdiag" and let us know which version of DirectX you are running. The information is located towards the bottom of the "system" tab.

You'll want to copy the missing file from wherever you downloaded it to on your computer and paste it into the system folder where all your other directX files are stored (been a while since I've checked this stuff on Windows 98 - should just be in the windows ---> system folder)

Though I'm not sure this will fix your problem with the editor not working.

Ooh, that could be a problem. Unless your onboard video card supports an updated adapter which supports DX 9 (which is HIGHLY unlikely), you're probably stuck buying a new video card)

If you want something cheap, I would recommend an ATI Radeon card - you could pick up a Radeon 7000 for about $15 or a Radeon 9000 or 9250 for about $40.

ok, since my graphics card won't support DirectX9.0c is there any way to get it off my computer even though it's supposed to be a permanent upgrade? that's all i will need to do in order to run the visual editor with DirectX8.1.
