The compiling commands you have to use are:
$csg_exe $path\$file -wadinclude GE.wad
$bsp_exe $path\$file
$vis_exe $path\$file
Now you should get a .bsp when you compile. |

If something isn't working just keep tinkering with how you have everything set up and hopefully you'll get it to work.
Maybe you could post your compile log so we could see whats going on? _________________ 304 HP |

Thank you GERage, I finally got most of my rooms compiled in bsps.
I get this error on one of my levels.
BEGIN hlcsg -----
Command line: C:\PROGRA~1\VALVEH~1\tools\zhlt\hlcsg.exe c:\DOCUME~1\admin\MYDOCU~1\GOLDEN~1\lockdown\rooms\CELLRO~1 -wadinclude GE.wad
Entering c:\DOCUME~1\admin\MYDOCU~1\GOLDEN~1\lockdown\rooms\CELLRO~1.map
Error: Entity 1, Brush 0: SKY brushes not allowed in entity
Error: Brush type not allowed in entity
Description: The map has a problem which must be fixed
Howto Fix: Check the file http://www.zhlt.info/common-mapping-problems.html for a detailed explanation of this problem
----- END hlcsg -----
Basically, theres a sqaure hole in the ceiling and a sky texture a bit above it? Am I not allowed to have a start point and sky or something?
I'll try some stuff and see what happens.
let me know if you know what the problem is.
thanks again |

It says sky brushes are not allowed in the log but i've never worked with sky brushes so I can't really say for certain that that is the problem. _________________ 304 HP |

Sadly I can't help you, I've never gotten that error before. You'll probably need to tinker with that room until the error's gone.
But hey, it's great to know you got the rest of the rooms compiled! |

Yeah it is, Thanks again for the help with compiling.
Heres a few pics of the level thats not compiling.
And I tried deleting the sky texture, As you can see I added a hole in the wall so people can look out at the sky with a fence around it.
Heres the new compile log.

Figured it out, sorta. I deleted all the cells and it compiled. The cells are pretty important for my map. is it possible to add them while in GE Setup editor? or does anybody got any ideas? Thanks |

The problem is that Hammer won't allow you to create flat planes.
To work around this, create a block (1 unit thick) with the NULL texture and apply the cell texture to one face of this block. Repeat for every cell you want to have.
Keep in mind that you might have to manipulate the vertices, as intersecting faces in Hammer are removed during compiling.
And yes, you CAN create cells in the GE Editor (using the cell door object).
Your jail cell area is looking really awesome though. Excellent work! |

Thanks for the help, But I kinda got a problem.
I made the cells one block bigger and nulled 5/6 of the blocks.
But I got this.

its in hammers compile process. Since the block is textured, it thinks you can't see anything below it and cuts the tri's accordingly.
The best method for doing this is to create the cell walls in XSI, so that you can make them 4 verticies without any problems.
as a last resort, you could always make them using the cell door object. |

okay sweet, I'll just import it into hammer and take care of the cell walls in there.
Two questions now,
I got all my rooms compiled, My next step should be to convert my BSPs to OBJs. I downloaded the tool bsp to obj and when I try to open it it just quits out of command prompt right away, I take it theres a command line I have to execute to convert my bsps. anybody know what that is exactly?
and second question.
I found a map somebody uploaded to goldeneyevault.com which is co op facility. I really liked it and I wanted to edit and add my own guards and objects, so I took about an hour and added all the bosses to various parts of the level. I saved it and injected it into the rom but when it tries to load, all it does is play the music for the level and just a black screen. anybody got any ideas? I added alot of weird stuff, Like just the one arm laying on the ground and the heroin lol. some of the beta stuff just to see what they look like and such. Mostly just to get familiar with gesetup so I can make my next level better. Let me know what you guys think as to why this level could be freezing.
thanks |

Dont do Inject from Project, do Convert ROM thats how i **** up on Drax Facility. Once you click CONVERT ROM in Tools, Ctrl n Click all files (like UsetuparkZ) that you want in it.
Also Go into Prefrences and make the rom your Quick Convert ROM so then you can go into the 21990 Modification and Increase the mt to a higher number.
Im simple words, Texture Overload _________________ Also known as Spyster or Nyxem

Actually, inject project into ROM should work fine, i think its because you exceeded the texture limit.
Each level can only load so many textures before it crashes. Theres an option in the 21990 menu to increase the texture allowance, but for now, i would just get rid of some of the bosses.
EDIT:
reading over hackbonds post again, he actually got it before me >.>' |

Yeah as soon as you inject Quick ROM and Convert ROM no longer work. I could fix quick ROM to inject instead but it's nice it doesn't need to redo the CRC for ROM so it uses standard settings. What do people think? |
