 |
|
Hey all. I know people have been wanting a patch that will give them the original bond heads to go along with the Bond suits from Zoinkity's patch. Now, this isn't the final product just yet, but I'm hoping it can be the first step toward an All-Bonds head patch.
BondHeadsv1.ips - Unflipped
Select the following chars in multi to see the corresponding heads:
Jim - Roger Moore
Robin - Timothy Dalton
Neil - Sean Connery
Basically what I did, is use the GE rom editor to do a lot of trial and error to see what heads the textures, from Rune & Zoinkity's pack, fit best. I found that Jim and Robin are a fairly good match to Moore and Dalton, respectively.
Connery was a little tougher. After much effort, I finally found Neil's head to be the closest match. The face was an almost perfect fit right off the bat. But the sides of the head weren't lining up right with face (especially the right side). After doing some tweaking in Photoshop, I got a much better fit.
Before I get any deeper into this, I'd thought I'd post it here and see what you guys think. I'm thinking I should tweak Connery's face so that the chin sits a bit lower. Other than that, I'm not sure what adjustments to make. I hope I'm at least on the right track as far as having the right head polygons.
Comments, Ideas, Suggestions?

The Moore looks superb! The Connery and Dalton ones aren't perfect, seems like some of the sides don't line up right and the faces look a bit squished or something, but I'm really glad someone's trying to put all Bonds back. It'd be great if you after this also put back and fit Rare's heads as well. |

@Subdrag: Thanks for compliments! Glad to hear I got one of them pretty much perfect. I agree Dalton and Connery still aren't quite right. I don't think lining up the sides is as much of an issue as finding a way to not have a squished face.
Also, am I correct in thinking that I can't map two sets of textures to the same polygon? I would think that the game loads the texture based on the polygon and not the other way around. The Jim polygon seems like it could be a pretty versatile one if I can map more than one set to it at a time.
And regarding the original head textures, sure, I'll try to work on those too.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but yeah each face one texture is mapped, for simplicity's sake lets say this.
I would be very interested to see the old Bonds on the new heads!
Also, you will likely need to edit the original bitmaps, adjust positions, darken/lighten the textures, etc to make it perfect. |

Roger Moore does look spectacular!
The only tiny (constructive) critiscm I have regarding him, is that the sides of his head and his face have slightly different colouring. Like his face is more tanned than the sides. You know what I mean? If you could adjust that, it'd be pretty much perfect. Great job! _________________

Why not use the images from the ROM? Or is there like, bad quality or something to them? |

I wasn't planning to get into image editing when I started with this, so I used the newer versions thinking they'd be good as is and all I need to do was find the right head. With the exception of Moore, that was quite wrong. But I am going to start working on the original images, now that I've gone about far as I think I can with the new ones.
With that said, allow me announce the second version of my head patch.
Updated in this version:
-I tweaked the color on the side texture for Roger Moore to hopefully better match the face. They looked pretty close to me before, so I'm not sure how much closer it is now.
-I fixed the alignment on the textures for Timothy Dalton so that they line up much better than before. Color for the side textures was tweaked as well.
-Connery now uses the 'Shaun' head. I'm not totally satisfied with it as it looks a bit chubby. But it seems to be the best I can do, short of going back to Neil, who isn't a much better fit.
BondHeadsv2.ips
As I mentioned above, this is as far as I'll go with these textures, at least for now. Connery was a royal pain to get anywhere close with and I'm really wanting to move onto the original head textures.
@Subdrag: As I've been using the rom image editor, there's a minor problem I've been working around. Whenever I go to edit a texture, if I save the image as a new file, I have to close and re-open the rom editor in order for the new image to show up in the user image list. Would it be possible to update the image editor to have a refresh button for the user image folder? Or even an automatic refresh upon selecting the user image folder? |

That shouldn't be too hard. Open the image tools and find a face that is the same shape as yours, export it to bitmap. Open a picture of yourself, cut out your face, resize it to fit the size of the original face, and import it. Save and test it in-game. You'll probably have to make some tweaks to get it lined up perfectly, you'll notice that most of the faces are stretched out and distorted in places to cover the model correctly. |
