Hi:

Probably many of you know that you can overclock the N64 by means of changing the frecuency multiplier of the CPU by connecting 2 pins of the chip to different combinations of ground and 3.3volts.
The possible settings are 1.0x 1.5x 2.0x and 3.0x.
The factory setting is 1.5, which, given a bus clock of 62.50Mhz, makes the CPU run at 93.75Mhz.

Overclocking games like goldeneye, that have such heavy slowdowns can be very attractive, but there's a little problem I have noticed in the video demonstrations I have seen.

Apparently, Goldeneye uses the main system clock as a means to determine the passage of time, and overclocking not only gives more power, but also makes the game run at fast motion, which is not so nice.

I was wondering if codes could be made to "fix" this nasty side effect of overclocking goldeneye.

So, you want to overclock it without affecting the cycle counters? That's not possible. It is used as far more than a counter anyway. The reason you're playing in fast motion is because it is running fast. It is processing all the same data at the same speed it normally does, except doing it at a faster rate. It would do the same to any game you shove in the slot unless it had an on-board clock and some kind of cycle-realtime delay.
It's crazy talk. You're crazy ;*)

If you only cheat the cycle counter that wouldn't affect speed, would throw interrupts a little more often, and botch all the monitors and certain animations. Not quite so bad. Actually overclocking it alters processing speed, and there's no way to get around that software-side other than throwing delays, which would cause more harm than good.

Perhaps you could you the slow animation cheat? Maybe that'd give you the benefit of faster processing while still being playable.

Well, I haven't experienced overclocking myself yet, but I have seen videos, and as far as I gather, not all games end up in fast motion when overclocked. GE and PD are two that do, but not all. Other games get different glitches. For example, the guy that made the mod, Robert Ivy, told me on a private message (in his forum, defunct now), that Donkey Kong 64 ran normally except for the timed mini games, in which ONLY the clock ran faster, rendering some tightly timed one impossible to complete.
Other games may have different glitches and there's still others that have none.

That's why I thought that, maybe, there could be a possibility.

The premises on which you based your answer contradict the information I have about the practical facts of the N64's overclocking.
