Here is an interesting jem I stumbled across on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ultimate-Rarity-Nintendo-Ultra-64-hardware-N64-dev_W0QQitemZ150328607067QQihZ005QQcategoryZ139971QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

A Nintendo Ultra 64. Already bid up to $760 with 5+ days left on it.

Just how rare are these things?

a lot!!!

but, as the descrption specifies, you'll need the computer it's plugged in.
the name is a bit mistaken, I think, but ok.
it's the first generation of n64 dev kits.
it says it has a "sgi software disc", but I wonder what's inside exactly. will it include all the development stuff from nintendo?

I visit assembler games, the site referenced in the auction, and they normally advice interested buyers ("collectors") to buy complete kits untouched, intead of pieces to assemble yourself, so you have everything inluded. one important point in an item such as this would be having the complete system with the hard drive included because it will probably contain the OS and all needed software already installed, saving you the trouble to hunt them down (and probably failing or paying too much) and then installing and setting everything down without documentation or technical service, which you'll probably need since this is not a consumer product but basically a prototype with lots of non evident dos and don'ts and crap which can easily drive you nuts.

The price will surely go up, possibly a lot, in the last hours of hte auction.
