I have hundreds of docs on hacking GE, and they all mention 1172 compression. I've read somewhere that it's similar to gzip, but I can't find any info on an algorithm to decompress it. Can it be done with zlib, or are there any other open source tools to do so? Any help is appreciated. |

Well, the editor uses zlib.dll so I'd say you are in the correct path, but I can't give you any practical usage guide since I never tried what you want to do.
Good luck.
Anyway, these hundreds of docs sound valuable, you could upload them somewhere for grabs. |

Hundreds may have been an exaggeration, but I got them somewhere on this forum in the post 'GE Documentation'. There's tons of useful information in there. I almost have enough to render the geometry of a GE level in another engine, but this compression has been a road block. I'll play around with zlib and see what happens. |

ah, heh, these docs are actually the documentation to zoinkity's NSNA hack of GE. Obviously lots of stuff are still applicable to stock GE, but in practice he's documenting his NSNA, which is like a low level improvement of GE.
Well, at least that's what I understand from my conversations with him. I could have got something slighty wrong, but I think I am correct. |

Yep, it's gzip minus header. You can decompress it via the editor, or the code is available at RWP forums somewhere for gedecompressor, maybe home page. |

In my case, gzip is not compatible, contact the editor. I use vista 64 bits |
