 |
|
For once, a question and not a long-winded lecture.
Does anybody notice a significant display speed difference or sporadic lag on text displays when playing with english text versus japanese text?
Mind you, I'm not just talking about forcing japanese mode on an english game, but even between english, pal, and japanese roms.
To avoid throwing this questionare either way, I won't explain why I'm asking. _________________ (\_/) Beware

I should explain one other thing: this will directly influence how the font extension system is going to work.
If you need to use extended european characters or otherwise need to edit fonts or work with script, definately take the time to respond to this poll. _________________ (\_/) Beware

I unfortunately think most people have never played both! Only maybe the Japanese folks. |

I actually have the Japanese Version.. but I have no real means of playing it ATM. The "N64 Ultra Converter" it came with.. doesn't work. So I'm gonna try to get my hands on a new one.. and hopefully I can give an answer. But for now I'm just sitting on an unplayable game 3:
But I would assume it would be faster on the JP version; since NTSC/J games tend to run faster(like the JP version of "Wily Wars" on the Genesis runs at 60FPS and I believe the American one only ran at 30.. although I can't verify that; since the game was only available through Sega Channel) _________________ Who? |

If you place a japanese cart on top a GS it will work fine on any NTSC system, US or japanese. The only system-side difference between the two consoles is the region code returned, which virtually all early games ignore and can be easily defeated with said GameShark. _________________ (\_/) Beware

I've been wanting to get a Japanese version of the game (also a PAL version), but whenever I find one on eBay the seller is asking quite a hefty price. _________________

You can probably find one pretty cheap if you can find a Japanese store online that'll ship to you. I used to know one, that even had an English version, but I've forgotten the name and url (how helpful, I know). Pretty sure GE and PD were both available for under $20. |

Heck, you can use the ROM as a source if you really want to. If anything, a small delay will be more noticable under emulation if there is one.
Also, you can run an "E" game under "J" mode if you need to. The only side-effect of that is in US ROMs, when a full screen of text will flicker--a glitch solved in J and P release. _________________ (\_/) Beware

So that's the verdict? One vote for "no difference"? _________________ (\_/) Beware

Can you not test it on emulators running all three versions?
I don't know, maybe it's a stupid idea, if so then sorry, I'm not a programmer so I don't know. |

Yeah, of course you can. Heck, I thought I had mentioned that.
Yeah, anyone see any difference at all? _________________ (\_/) Beware
