Embarrassingly, I've forgotten what I need to do to get my vertex color changes saved to my map. While my hotel map still has a ways to go until finished, I wanted to make sure the textures I'm using will look as good as I'm hoping in-game when recolored. I did some vertex editing and saved as project, but my lighting disappeared. I tried exporting the vertices for each room and overwriting the old ones, but again, when I exported the BG my changes got erased. Searched the forums and couldn't find anything, but I know we've gone over it before...

In "Edit Room Positions" mode, right-click on a part of the room in which you wish to save the new colours. From the menu, choose "Export Room ORIGINAL Vertices -> GE Format" and select the room. It'll save the newly modified Vertices file for that room. Either save it over the original, or give it a new name and update your "RoomPositions.txt" file accordingly. Re-Export the full BG to get it appearing correctly.

Be careful, though. If you shift the room around or make changes to the vertex points in any way, those will be saved, too. I'd toggle off room changes, to prevent it from moving around while making edits.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but it didn't work when I tried it. I overwrote the original vertex files, but when I exported again, I lost my changes. Let me try again and I'll see what happens this time.

Well, this time it kept my coloring, but, uh, this happened:

Unfortunately, I didn't save a before shot, but that was a perfectly normal looking hall with a few test colorings.

Well, I tried again, and ended up with a room that didn't look like someone dropped a bomb on it. No idea what happened there, but I'll be sure to back up my vertex files from now on. That said, I'm going to make a suggestion in the December thread to automate the process (including backing up and restoring in the event of a disaster like that).

When it was first implemented, I remember having problems with overwriting the original file. Since it was being used by the Editor, it had difficulty writing over it. I had to save it under a different name. Sub had corrected this before, but perhaps it was undone during an update? I make a habit of saving under different names for many of my modifications, especially BG or clipping related. Safety first. Wink

I'm thinking, I was pretty hasty in exporting the background file after saving the vertices. Maybe the editor wasn't done writing to the file? It might be a good idea to lock out input until it's done (though I'd imagine such a small file would be done is less than a second, really.).

The best way is Save Project with Rooms, then it reoutputs it all including vertices. Otherwise it's a manual process one by one.

Not sure why it exploded, I see weird stuff occasionally but I was never able to track things down, might be buffer overflows.
