Hey guys I have a question, how do you put a modied level into Goldeneye. I saw a video on youtube where someone made a beta dam level with a boat taking you to the guard tower across the lake and I want to know how to get it in the game. I've made a backup of the rom and I've downloaded the level so how do I put it in the rom. Remember I'm new and stupid when it comes to hacking. lol Please provide as much info as possible. Thanks Very Happy

in the file you have downloaded there must be either an .ips or .xdelta file.
these are binary patch files, they contain the difference between two files, in this case, the hacked ROM with the level and the original unmodified ROM.
you just need a patcher program to apply the patch to an unmodified ROM which will result in you obtaining a copy of the hacked ROM that has the modified level.

the GE/PD editor has built-in patching facilities, just search the menus and you'll find it.
There are also standalone patching utils if you prefer:

I went into the goldeneye setup editor and I went under tools and it says apply ips patch and then it has me look for a file I clicked the ips file but then it has me look for another file. Am I doing it right?

The other file would be the ROM, once you get the unmodified rom, you save it like I dunno, GEDamBoat.rom?

I have one more question. Is there a way to put a bunch of modied levels into 1 rom. So far if I do 1 mod and try to do another I have to overwrite the other one I applied the patch to. If I overwrite it will the last patch still be in there as well or not. Cause I have about 6 levels I want to apply patches for and there each a different level and I don't want to click on 1 rom file to play one level and click on another rom file to play another. So is there a way to put them all into 1.
*Edit* Also I just applied the dam level beta patch but it freezes everytime I click on a difficulty. I'm using Project 64
None of them want to work. The delta ones make the game not run. The ips ones so far don't work. Like I said before the dam one freezes selecting the difficulty and I just tried this aztec complex one and the game won't even start.

1 patch 1 rom
for merging mods into a single rom you have to decompose the various hacked roms that contain things you want, take them separatelly, and hack away at merging them in a single hack.
This is not like PC or modern console games that can be updated with additional content. ROM hacking is a different bussiness.

Each new hacked rom is a different game from the emulator's point of view.
You see, the current generation of n64 emulators need to keep a database of emulation settings for each game, since there's no "universal" settings that are valid for all games. To identify each game, the ROM is checksummed and then the emulator searches for a match in the database, and if it finds one, the stored settings are applied.
most/all emulators have their settings for GE when the rom is identified.
the problem is that hacked roms have different checksums and the emu can't find a match in the database.
You have to see the emulation settings for the original GE ROM, write them down, and replicate them for each of your hacked roms.
it's a bit of a nuisance, but that's how it is.

If you use the mupen emulator, the you can find a database for it that has all of the hacks in the site already registered so you don't have to do it

Unfortunatelly there's no such for pj64.

Thanks radorn for the info and at one point an error came up and it said something about check sums so I'll have to look into it, and sorry Wreck, for putting this in the wrong section.
