When browsing ebay, how do I know I've found a compatible gameshark capable of hooking up to my computer for hacking?
The one I bought back in December was a v3.3 but did not have the red light and did not hook up to my computer. How can I tell when just browsing an ebay listing if I've found one that will work?

It's quite hard to determine just by their auction description. I had purchased two off of the same seller, thinking that they were the original models that came packaged with a tuturial video. When they arrived, I was bothered to see that they were both in the newer box and did not have the video. Neither one has a working LED, but are compatible with my PC. So long as it has that little white box behind the plastic bubble, it should be fine. Either ask the seller about it, or make sure they come with the video.
You could also try looking for a v3.2 GameShark.
Once you get it, you'll be able to upgrade it to a v3.3. |

| The one that I own has the port on the back and has a little reset button on the front. Its called a "GameShark Pro" and says "InterAct" I see nothing behind the black bubble. I've had no luck connecting this to a computer, tried both a windows 98 and a windows 2000 system. |

You need the original datel coms utilites and (unfortunately) an older computer since they dont' run on XP. It should come with the gs3.3 rom file, called ar3.enc. You hook up the gs to your LPT port and choose the "update rom" option in the program.
If you have XP there may be a workaround I don't know of. Most likely you will simply have to go dumpster-diving and find an old win98 machine.
There's also a patch RWP put out that will allow the utility to upload .enc files other than the official rom. That will let you use the perfect dark trainer.

The chip that communicates with your pc is completely gone. This happened when GS got bought out. They got cheap with the manufacturing but NOT the price. Lousy bastards. Don't settle for just anything Ebay sells or Amazon. Simply ask the seller to check for you before you buy it.

im lucky. i found a gs 3.2 for for free...
got it from a friend, but have had no luck hooking it up. dont care much for it until the caves mission comes out.
