my friend told me there was a program that allowed one to make their own levels. it is said to take other objects and place them from other levels, much like a park editor in the thps series. i dont know if it it is true or not. it would be sweet tho! mustve taken a lot of code... _________________ zerojett lives on! |

Most likely that rumour would not be true. However, some geniuses over at RareWitch have been able to edit levels (am i getting confusing? good.).
Some guy was able to uncompress the data and open it up in a standard 3D model editor. This was part of a big project with the goal of being able to edit levels then put them back in and play them, but thats where they encountered a problem. The project is sort of at a halt for now, because nobody was able to recompress the data and found a way to put it back in. For more information, visit RareWitch forums and find the Goldeneye Editing thread, and for a brief description of it, find the RareWitch Wiki.
How was Citadel's clipping made then? Well, I think Zoinkity knew a lot about how to put in clipping using GS code, and I think I saw somewhere that the Citadel clipping is very unique and not like any regular clipping, although it serves the same function.
If work gets up and running again over at RareWitch, we may very well see a level editor in the future, but be aware it would NOT be very simple to use. First versions may be command line, or we may have to go out and get a commercial model editor and use many utilities to incorporate the other features of levels. |

The level editor (the one SubDrag and I were working on at least) isn't complete. However, the beta output data that was usable if you knew how to edit the offsets.
It isn't a drag-and-drop interface, though it's not as bad as command line. Virtually everything is automated, but the path data hung us up.
The compression scheme is actually a funny story. We can compress them with exatly the same tool Rare used - in fact *every game Rare made for N64!* Tee Hee. However, I promised Sub I wouldn't tell.
The clipping was assembled by hand. However, after finishing it, it led directly to stage model editting. The two are virtually the same. Since then I made a cute little program to take all the levels in a stage and output viable clipping based on them, but the output is vastly larger than that produced by hand concidering it uses only triangular tiles.
A full level outputer is ways off yet, but most of the work leading to it is complete. |

Email: mikelwnrt@hotmail.com
I would love to be able to use the program. Oh yeah, did you get anything to work with it onto the console? _________________ zerojett lives on! |

Holy poop, you guys have managed to correctly compress the ROM?!
This could be huge, especially if we can fiddle with the Revolution. |

Yeah, we can compress anything Rare ever made for N64. I'll probably PM you the info one day, just because you're you (and Sub likely won't murder me for it).
Although the setup editor does work and I've tested uploaded solo/multi maps created with it, it has three nasty flaws that prevent everyone short of SubDrag and myself from making any use of it.
1: the preset table is all screwed up. It can be fixed by hand though
2: every offset used in the file needs to be set by hand. That's a *lot* of stuff
3: it has no support for paths beyond letting you use pre-existing ones.
Other than that it works splendidily ;*) |

Hear that, everyone? I'm me!
I appreciate your trust, Zoinkity. You guys know that I never leak anything out. If it's never given out to the public, it'd go to the grave with me. |

I've been involved in the GoldenEye hacking scene for the past five or more years. I was also one of the only remaining GE hackers when PD was first released. People associate me with the game, even though I have made many other codes for Perfect Dark. They also know that I can keep things secret. Some guys have this natural instinct where they want to show off and give out information that they shouldn't. I guess I've built up a trust and a respect over the years. I'm grateful for that. |
