Were there ever any developments in terms of putting tanks in multiplayer? The most ive heard is that you can get a (shrunken) tiny tank in facility but you need 2 players to drive it.

Wouldnt it be awesome if there was like a full sized, working tank which each player can operate seperately in the big main middle room in the Stack (the room surrounded by the upper walkways) and you could play at least 3 players with it, and theyre all racing to get to it first!

Cheers

There are a few issues with tanks...

1) The clipping offset trick they use to climb them and walk about on top doesn't work in multiplayer. It doesn't load the routine properly, and long story short it fails.

2) The issue is with tank ownership. There's nothing that defines which player is in it, so *every* player is in it! Instead of a specific player ID or pointer, it uses the general 'player' F8-ish pointer. The end result is that you and everyone else can control it. It does work 4-player, just screwy, like in 2

3) You couldn't run over a player. Ever.

4) There's certain problems with the object type itself in mutliplayer. That gets *way* technical, so won't bother explaining it.

So, probably no tanks any time soon. On the plus side, there is an actual way to register an object's ownership to a specific player. It's part of a series of bitflags used only at runtime, typically utilized for the timer on thrown objects and to register their owners. Mess with the values, and you can detonate another player's mines!
Unfortunately, they specify a specific player though, not a traditional bitflag. Would work (sorta) for tank, but not with extended scenarios...
