 |

It's amazing how much work you have to go through to make these hacks work at all...
I have two more issues that I can't figure out how to solve.
1. The GoldenEye Setup Editor simply does not work. Whenever I open any setup data, compressed or uncompressed, it crashes. If I use File->New, the Visual Editor crashes the program. I can't do much like this.
2. Most patched ROMs run at a very low framerate, and they use up my whole entire CPU to do so. My computer is much more than capable of handling these games. The goldeneyevault.com FAQ has a solution to this problem, but it did not help at all.
Please help. |

In regards to your first problem, there are a number of things that can cause that, most are related to settings within the editor - its also possible that a key file the editor needs is non-existent or got moved or something. It can be a pain to track down - my suggestion would be to redownload the entire distribution package and reinstall it in another folder.
As for your second problem, post your computer specs. Goldeneye may be a more CPU-intensive game than you realize. |

1. I've done that twice. If there's a nonexistant file, it's not in the download.
2. Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2370 (1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache)
Up to 358 MB Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
2 GB DDR2
I'm not sure which of the specs are relevant. If you need to know more, let me know. |

Do you have both VS2008 Redistributable and DirectX 9.0c Redist? |

Yes. Before I got those, I couldn't even run the editor. |

I don't know Is it on a hard drive and not a CD? Are you on XP/Vista? |

Ah, good ol' vista. Probably the reason you're having both of your problems. I suspect your framerates would improve drastically under 2000 or xp, especially given the specs you posted (I don't know much about dual core processors, but an intel mobile processor running at 1.73 ghz on vista could certainly be your culprit).
Microsoft needs to round up every copy of vista ever released, put them on a spaceship headed for the sun, and pretend vista never happened. |

I have Vista and it works fine for me, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just you have to make sure you installed DirectX 9.0c specifically, since Vista only comes with DX10. |

I'm not worried about the editor so much as I am about being able to play other custom levels. Are you sure you have no idea why patched ROMs keep running at low FPS? |

Yeah, the editor runs great with Vista once you have the needed files.

So I take it you're another one who has never used it for any length of time? It's certainly better than XP ever was, and XP was pretty damn good compared to previous versions. |

Could we please stop the XP/Vista debate? I am not going to downgrade. I need a way to make the custom levels run normally on Vista, so telling me to use XP will not get us anywhere.
Oh, and the FAQ says that the editor works on Vista, so please don't blame my problems on the operating system. |

Well I don't know what else to tell you to do. If you've completely reinstalled and have all the necessary files, it should not be crashing. I've had crashing issues before on opening files, but it was related to outdated files or lack of files or improper settings within the editor.
And as far as your framerate issue, you either have to live with it, downgrade to XP, or upgrade your hardware. There is absolutely nothing else you can do, assuming you have the proper settings set in your emulator. |
