I was curious if anybody has ever used this program before?

It can export to .rmf and it uses wad files.

I didn't have much luck using it - seems kinda buggy, and the GE wad file crashed it. But if anybody could figure that out, this might be a useful tool for creating terrain then exporting it to hammer.

No, I've never used it before. It does look like it would be extremely useful for creating outdoor areas.

Edit: Just gave it a try. I didn't bother trying to load the wad, I just played around with the terrain untextured. I was able to open the .rmf in Hammer but the mountain I made was absolutely massive compared to what I thought and it took a long time to open. I didn't try compiling (given how long it took to open, compiling probably would've taken forever).

That looks kind of resource expensive, but I'm sure that if you could customize it, and lower the polygon count, it'd be really useful. What we'd really need is ancient 3D-tools, that outputs real low-poly objects.

it shouldn't be necessary to resource to such ancient stuff.
n64-level commercial hardware is still on the market. there's the DS, for example, and even more, mobile phones and such. and then there's also indie games and homebrew, be them for pc or older consoles, so somewhere there ought to be something.

The terrain this generates, by default, is pretty low poly. The roughness in that screenshot is added by using another tool on it after raising/lowering the terrain.

why not try the quake 1 or 2 editors?

i know that the tomb raider level editor uses wads. would that be compatible? it's VERY easy to use b/c it works with a grid so it would streamline the process.

Worldcraft/Hammer was a Quake editor before it became Half-Life exclusive (and got a name change). I believe you can still use it for Quake, but it's not officially supported. I've tried some other Quake editors, but none of them were as good as Hammer.

I'll have a look at it. Still, I can't help to think about the immense work with clipping...

I don't think tomb raider editors would be too good for this since TR's terrain is composed of equal sized squares with just variations in the relative height of its vertices. You would not obtain very good terrain out of it.

the TR could be good for beginners i'm saying, instead of just playing out the original GE levels till we'll sick of them. TR levels are a cinch. you can do slopes with differing angles and make some damn good maps with it in a short, easy time. i imagine the clipping would be simple too, comparatively. but we're getting off topic lol.

Sounds like you have experience with it. When you get the GE editor working, maybe you could try making a map and see if you can get it imported. If so, write up a quick guide for it, I'd love to see more maps being made, and the more tools we have available the more likely that is.

hey thanks man Smile i'm installing my brother's copy of xp now. it might be 64bit but prob not cuz who has 64bit xp, seriously lol. but yeah i'll make a youtube video to show you how awesome that editor is. it would be excellent for beginners or for faster map making.

i love that damn editor if you cant tell. i've used it for years. and btw, i think this open-minded about what other editors besides hammer is very productive.

That is great. Love it, could you enhance it, as in adding a preview screen ,and why is it .ico-files?

Why icons? I sort of just came up with the idea out of the blue. Plus, it happens to be one of the few very common 32bit bitmap formats there are, or at least one of the best supported. I mean, sure, targas have been doing it for almost two decades, but everyone seems to hate targas...
