What's this about precache data? If I know about it I can try and add it. |

Sorry Zoinkity! I didn't know it was all Subs fault lol.
Ok. All textures have a PreCache call at the beginning of the Object file. It's usually in the order of:
Texture preset, Texture Size, some other stuff I don't know about.
Ie. (and from memory so forgive me if this is wrong, but it should boot the textures for the Motorbike tyres)
03 8C 40 20 00 06 00 00 00 00 00
For vehicle modding I had trouble pulling parts of polydraw routine out - all I can say is that pesky 04 call for getting face data is seriously tough to understand. Now this probably went all the way over everyones head but never mind.
Story: It's been something like three weeks since I hit the town and a friend calls me and asks if we can watch a movie. After the film she asks to make out. After that she looks at me and says: "Thanks - I just wanted to kiss one more guy." Well I was thinking...holy crap...did I just score a girl who has terminal cancer?!?! No, she'd decided to become a lesbian and is now dating someone called Mairead. The Irish girl meets the Scottish girl and *ahem* flowers blossom.
In short, every release needs a story, and that's what p*ssed me off enough to sit back down and beat my head against a keyboard until the Motorbike (yep you heard right, Motorbike) worked.
Perhaps we should rename this: "Generic Vehicle Thread" lol
I've forwared the files to Sub, Wreck and Zoinkity - they'll give them a once over, and if all is good in the state of Denmark they should be up soon.
It'll be the last vehicle for a while, lets just say that the learning curve for this bike was steep as things just didn't want to work.
Duke: It's a custom model I was working on for Goldeneye. The head is done, but the body might just end up being a texturemod. _________________ No Mr. Bond, I expect you to be re-coded! |

I continue to be very, very impressed by your new vehicles! They really are fantastic amounts of work, and I really am loving them.

I don't precache images because they don't seem to be necessary. Are they?
Also, MrKane, use the 21990 file injection! Then you don't have the convert ROM issue (which is tied to the hardcoded positions, and not dynamic). |

It should be mentioned that most motorcycles don't have tank shell launchers on them |

Not unless Q and his staff got their hands dirty with them!
Sheesh, another new vehicle released, and I still haven't had a chance to test out the military jeep. Guess I'll need to put some time aside to rip around a stage in them both. Looking very much forward to that. _________________

Could you replace this with a fully custom model and alter the different values of it, such as speed, sound, weapon or seat placement?
The reason that I'm asking is because I'm creating a low poly Aston Martin DB5 for that other project. Obviously I'd prefer it if I could work with this without playing with hex values or things like that.
This is probably too hefty, 500 tris, I'll try to reduce it and apply textures, but as this is the third try it's getting there at least. |

Hah, that's exactly what I was thinking when I was playing around with it. |

Custom models: It's doable but fiddly. Basically it's the hex editor baby!
As for the precaching - I've found that if tank models don't precache it really slows down the opening on the editor - apart from that there's no other issues. I'm a bit of a perfectionist.
Well, I think that's about the last vehicle I'll make in a while
Ooop! Almost forgot something: Fires grenades! Of course! Actually, I forgot to disable it but it's kinda cool.
Have fun guys! I'm almost wondering what level will be made to take advantage of these as I'm not inclined to make anything. _________________ No Mr. Bond, I expect you to be re-coded! |

No, not the hex editor! My bane! Really, why can't it come with a shiny interface and big red buttons? Seriously though, I've done some hex work, but it's really unhealthy for me, I get chest pains just from looking at it. Do you think you could be "inside" the vehicle, I mean, have roof over your head and look out a glass window?
TimEh, well, I'd save 16 tris really, and I still don't know how to do secondary indicies, actually, I'm a little bit scared by them. I try to keep them away from me as long as I can. If the final model is about 200-300 tris, I think I can keep the round wheels. |

8*4=32 take away from the outside of wheel
2*4=8 4 squares for outside. 2 tris each
......-__
24 i think thats right
the only way i could see 16 if your talkin squaring the inside. in that case take away 8 more and add 32 more to the total. unless im completly missing something. Which is probably the case since i got into the bottle pretty early today
and those secondary indices... someone wanna give me a push in the right direction? I just could use some info on how the index files are laid out, ill figure out the rest
the dcar looks sweet tho |

You see, that is why I can't be allowed to hex, I can't even do the multiplication table justice. For some reason, I did 8*3. Yea, you're right. We'll see if do the planes instead of cylinders, it depends on the overall tri count. |

Oh, and those Secondary Indices keep calling out, ever so sweetly...
I really need to sit down and atleast start writing that tutorial. I have most of it planned out, it's just the matter of doing it. We'll see what comes up tomorrow. If it's open, I'll begin typing things up. _________________

Yea, I've been making motor noises with my mouth while modeling. And I'm not even into cars. I'll keep the updates in the Goldfinger thread so that I don't derail this thread any more. Sorry MRKane. |
